Family man. Impeccable reputation. Most decorated WSOP champion in history. Polarizing personality. Mainstream popularity. Poker may never has a human like Phil Hellmuth ever again.

Yes, I said impeccable reputation. His lack of involvement in the UB scandal is well-documented. Let's move on.

It is rare for someone like him to exist in poker. For as weird as it is to brag about not cheating on your wife, it is almost understandable in his situation. His profession, and his level of fame, does not bode well for relationships. But he is a loyal husband and father of two boys. He is an all-american family man in a profession filled with cheating scum bags.

His results in the WSOP have stood the test of time. He has competed, and succeeded, at the highest level in the tournament world for 30 years. He continues to have profitable years at the WSOP despite consistent disrespect for his game as the poster child of hate from internet-age players.

His personality makes him fun to watch. If you disagree, your opinion probably sucks. Yes, he can be an absolute jerk, but he never truly tries to hurt people. He spazzes off like the overgrown child he is. But, in possible the most well-documented fact in poker history "he is one of the most loved people away from the table".

Most poker players can't sniff the types of relationships he has developed with actors, comedians, and athletes over the years. He is objectively amazing for poker. He name drops an obnoxious amount and I'm glad he does. I don't care how obnoxious he is when the NBA Finals MVP name drops HIM in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel.

I'm 26. I am a millennial. I work in tech. I grew up playing internet poker and thinking old school players suck This view is not from some old curmudgeon. Phil is the best. It's not close. Doyle and others have done their time and spent their lives adding value to the game we love. Phil is one of the first players 95% of wsop.com viewers look for to see if he is still in a tournament. He has almost a Trump level social media presence where 18 d-bags respond instantly to every tweet trash talking him for likes.

If you dislike Phil because he acts like a harmless brat, you are probably boring. If you dislike Phil because of UB, you are misinformed. If you dislike Phil because he has a different personality, says some strange things, and name drops, you are probably a judge ******* (like me i guess, to be fair).

Phil is the best value adding player for our game, and it's not really close.

I made this post after an all-day corporate training and many happy hour beers. I am not sure what sparked it besides seeing more, generic, annoying hate for Phil from guys my age. You all suck, goodnight.

No. His lack of transparency in the UB scandal is well documented.

He was and likely still is best friends with the cheating scum. Particularly those who fleeced UB players. Look into Phil's friendship with Greg Pierson and Russ Hamilton. You surely can't deny their involvement or how close they all are.

I think you are misinformed. If you can like Phil after what happened at UB, you must be.

He was still well involved with UB when the money was rolling in and had no problem staying silent about it until they went under.

he's an insecure name dropping dbag who has no problem bathing in his ub money.
his "i've never cheated on my wife thing" in every interview is also beyond weird and comes off as him trying to convince himself it's true.

he is brilliant at marketing himself.

1. I ageee
2. It's almost impossible to be a life long anything(pick any career) and not be involved in a scandal. Seriously, you guys are jaded. Cops lawyers doctors politicians construction factories authors music etc. everything is a scandal
3. I think it's cool to be proud of not cheating on your wife. Who wouldn't want to be his friend? Assuming it's true

dont know about time stamp, but here is clip that was on Deeb's tweet.

evidently Doug thought it was pretty funny that Hellmuth cold 4-bet half his short stack with K4 and then had to call off rest when Deeb put him all in with his KK.

dont know why I find this so funny but I cant stop laughing.

maybe white magic not so strong in cash games ?
I'm so glad this thread got bumped for a reminder of this classic moment.

If you say something enough, pretty soon it is accepted as true. Only, it's not true. The only "documentation" is Phil's personal business attorney (and one of his 4 best friends according to PH himself at the time) making a statement in a private meeting that Phil would assist in cleaning up the fallout from cheating discoveries. Another of the 4 besties is also on the tape saying they should leave PH out of the cleanup efforts. NOTHING in the tapes can be construed as definitive in his involvement or lack thereof.

Personally, I think Russ (third of the 4 BFFs) probably didn't loop Phil into what he was doing because he knew Phil had a big mouth. But Phil knew Russ' history intimately and the convo was most likely "don't ask questions and cash the checks Phil". There are HHs of cheaters stacking Phil though dumping for tax purposes is also a possible explanation.

The bigger issue is his behavior once the crime was discovered and that chapter is well-documented. He played almost zero role in helping players recover and overlooked a clear effort to stiff players by at least $16M and likely a lot more. But he did make a strong effort to ensure he didn't get stiffed personally.

Unfortunately we live in a world where corruption is now, not accepted but almost expected and so saying character is destiny means Phil gets to ride in private jets and sit courtside and con people like you into believing his story.

For the best poker player in the world(According to him), to have a house about to be foreclosed on if he doesn't sell it, Yea things are not looking as good as they once were.

Of course not busto but on the down slope.

The only way he could get 375k or higher is if someone with too much money would buy the house just because its Phil's house.

Redfin has it at 363k, houses usually won't sell for very much if anything higher than the redfin estimate.
