Ok, evidence, or anything to support this? I assume by saying that he is underestimating it by a LOT you mean 80% or more (correct me if im wrong) of name pros that you regularly see on TV are not only are losing players, but have a negative net worth?

Seems pretty redic, but if its true I'd like to know why.

He wasn't saying 50% of the name pros are losing players. He's saying 50% are broke. I assume he's right. Doesn't mean they don't have skills and couldn't own the average 100/200 game when playing well....just means they can't manage their money.

I also think he alludes to the fact that alot of pros also gamble too much on other things that they don't have an advantage or edge on like sports.

(it's been said that Ungar pretty much gambled away his poker and gin winnings on horses and sports rather recklessly, well the money that he didnt snort up his nose or smoke.)

In the TSN documentary about Stu Ungar they talked about how his lifetime winning were something like 35+ million, but when he died all he had was $500. He said that the most embarrassing thing that happened to him was when he went to get school clothes with his daughter, he had no money to buy them.

It's no secret that a large chunk of poker players do go broke often. Some players use very good bankroll management (Gordon, Ferguson) and will likely never go broke. However, to get to the level they're at, they had to take a lot of risks. A lot of the players you see on T.V are huge gamblers. Just look at how they got there. A large chunk of them dropped out high school, left home and started playing poker for scrapes.

It's just the culture of live poker players. You go broke, and you borrow 10 grand from another player, pay him back next week, and you're back to making money. However, these guys do have money for living expenses and what not stored away. The rule of thumb is once the money leaves the casino, it doesn't come back.

Ferguson was a stock market/investment millionaire BEFORE he ever became a poker millionaire. That's how he was able to pay for his tourney entry fees.

You mean Gordon, not Ferguson, no?

No unless the magazine I read that from got the info incorrect. I believe I read that in Poker Player magazine from UK. Apparently he made his fortune in a softward company?

The idea of most pros being in flat on their dick broke is not at all a stretch. Stu Ungar, Mike Matasow and Gus Hanson are perfect examples.

Watch that gibberish high-stakes game on GSN. They would bet on the number of peanuts in each other's turds...and not small amounts. Everyone thinks of Gold or Hachem's huge wins and think all the poker players have mega bucks. But Hellmuth's 11 victories have not even netted him as much as Gold or Hachem won in one event.

What the hell does the Gov tax these guys? Then their huge houses. Prop bet swings. And tournament buy-ins. Negreanu is up there in tourney wins...but you've watched him lose almost a million in TV high stakes games.

In the last episode of HSP I saw, Farha asked Daniel if he was playing with his money as though he wasn't or might not or had not recently. Why the hell would he ask this?

You guys agree with this?
Sadly yes....in fact I wouldn't be surprised if he is conservative with that estimate.
