Has it been discussed what kind of effect it will have on bringing in new players to the game and keeping old recs in the game by having the training site attached to the poker site, and just poker in general?

What was the general opinion if one was formed?

The name for this product hasn't been announced yet AFAIK. if the name is different then the vast majority of customers won't know about the association.

Jason Mo is the human equivalent of when you get out the shower in the morning and it's freezing cold and you stub your wee toe on the door.

Hm, now that you mention it I don't think there has been an official announcement.

That being said, the comments in the RIO thread seem pretty telling that it'll be called RIO, or RIO poker, and the current RIO site will become RIO training..

Since the time of my post above on 26th August..... Kate Middleton, The Duchess of Cambridge has announced she is pregnant expecting her and Prince William's third child, and Prince Harry is on the verge of announcing his engagement to Meghan Markle.

So this is actually very good progress for RIO Poker. As the British monarchy moves on a pace, so will RIO.

wait is RIO Lizzie's super secretive offshore venture

He must be losing a fortune if he's been paying people full time salaries to work on this site for the last year

These kind of projects are usually funded mostly with investors' money by selling them equity in the company and keeping some equity for yourself.

So it's more likely that he is freerolling some equity in the company and possibly picking up a regular salary as chief executive of the company.

Obviously the above is conjecture by me about the business structure but it is in line with the norm for the majority of start ups, particularly when they are businesses that operate mainly on line.

However, the burn rate may become an issue the longer it goes on without launch.

It can't launch, the barrier to entry into the industry is effectively infinite. Phil's just finding this out the hard way. There is new technology that allow start ups to bootstrap with a dramatically reduced cost and if he doesn't start considering this technology he's going to go broke. A few posters new this and were scoffed at but now with an indefinite launch date and new word or news after a year its getting obvious.

Must go server-less otherwise he's using an outdated model that won't compete in the new age.

I'm not sure if this is necessarily true. If he can overcome software complexity and licensing issues then I don't see why he can't use the more traditional technology.

Then the challenge of course is to procure a large player base.

I am very interested to see how they do with this and if RIO ends up selling its soul to the devil by offering casino games as well as poker, I sincerely hope it doesn't. A poker only web site would differentiate it from most/all others and be a key USP for new customers.

I am under the impression this is where he is sinking. Is there software?

Nonetheless new sites are going to be offering games with dramatically reduced rake and/or increased rakeback programs as their models grow. He has to join that movement or he'll never even get off the ground.

Yes probably the software needed is way more complex than it might first have appeared, particularly in terms of detecting collusion, third party software and bots.

I agree with the principle of block chain/server free technology being the way forward and much lower cost for everyone, but have doubts about how soon it will be adopted by the major poker providers, or accepted by the bulk of players as a safe and normal way of playing.

The whole on line poker market is also under threat of player per site dilution if most of the announced/rumoured new sites launch.
