They keep opening rooms around the US and keep having bigger and bigger tournaments, seems pretty healthy to me.

The online part is obviously wishful thinking, but we're a few months away from PA going live which is huge. General thought is that they will team up with NJ, NV, and DE, which will finally create a rather large network. Sports betting is also closer than ever to getting legalized on a federal level, bodes well for poker if so.

It depends on the thread. Come over to the lounge and chat about the good books you've read. Very friendly there.

Seems like a bad time to open a poker site, the industry going down in a blazing fire & partypoker has carered more to the pro player. I assume Galfond feels he can take partypoker traffic due to better software & possibly lower rake & new & creative cash game formats.

Wish Galfond the best, hopefully the site is what everybody wanted all along & it it is successful.

A month or two ago the PPA predicted that Texas, followed by Michigan, would be the next two states to get regulated online poker. I've watched videos of some of the hearings in Michigan and it does seem that we're pretty close. The combined populations of those two states is about 39 million.

So time for a new, which will happen next?

a) Donald Trump will invite Kim Jong-un to the White House and they will be seen laughing and joking together and Trump will call Kim a great/tremendous man/leader or very similar words.

b) Phil Hellmuth or Daniel Negreanu will win their next WSOP bracelet.

c) The Cleveland Browns will win 4 NFL games starting from now.

d) Beyoncé and/or Jay-Z will file divorce papers.

e) RIO Poker will launch real money games.
Option a) is coming up on the rails!

A poker site catering to professional players with slim margins in a heavily declining market. What could go wrong?

Why is 2+2 sometimes so insanely boring, with people mindlessly uttering stuff which has literally been said dozens of times in this thread already, only in some (rare) cases with actual thought and arguments behind it

Because 2+2 is representative of the world at large?

Because the interminable wait for this site to get up and running is boring as hell, probably.

Thank you for your brilliant input, thoughts and arguments.

Starting a business catering to the lowest value customers (professional poker players) is a bad idea. They are going to quickly realize that low rake isn't so attractive when you are playing against almost exclusively professionals and serious players.

Spending the sort of marketing money needed to bring in a lot of fun playing recs in this market isn't wise either and likely will lose a ton of money. There is a reason why AmayaStars is running their site the way they are. They see the writing on the wall.

Tournaments definitely have a future going forward, but fun players like big guaranteed prize pools. For a new site it will be incredibly difficult to realistically compete with Stars. You'd have to spend truck loads of cash while realizing there is still a reasonable likelihood you will lose anyway.

What insanely new and insightful thoughts were you expecting when you read the 1900th+ post in a thread about a poker site that doesn’t even exist yet?

Our contests are 10 or 2 man. We think this makes the experience more personal because you know every one of your opponents, but it does result in a ton of collusion opportunities albeit in ]small prize pools. I don’t personally think DFS and lottery-sized payouts need to be combined, but if I’ve got that wrong we’re basically cooked as there’s no way we can approach the payouts offered by Fanduel and DraftKings."

fyp to add [the insight that a small field in which most folks pretty much know each other tends to be fertile for collusion], especially in something like DFS.

See, also their marketing study of what customers like .... wrong = cooked ?
