I made a post on reddit (lol) complaining watching Galfond play Jon Little hu while they commentate was discouraging because Galfond is so good I basically feel like a fish.

Then Phil private messaged me with some encouragement and the offer of free membership at Run It Once. After that we exchanged a few messages about where Im at in poker and my goals, and he gave me advice for what I should be focusing on and moving towards.

Just thought it was awesome he went out of his way to hook me up and give me advice cause hes just a nice guy. Phil Galfond, he one of the good ones.

I will admit he is nice while he accelerates the destruction of Poker for his own personal game. Phil if you’re lurking I’ll just take the $ value of a sub.

Time heals all wounds. yours from phil is taking an especially long time.

Since it is the new year, lets start fresh.

Could you say at least one positive thing about Phil's involvement in the poker community ?

I saw Galfond at a grocery store in Vegas yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

first off, i'm like 80 percent trolling and i don't have a personal issue with phil. obv i think "nice guy" thing is overblown, but in the grand scheme of things its completely irrelevant.

i know almost nothing about his personal life or involvement in the "poker community". did a cursory internet search, and though he has played/promoted charity poker tournaments, he doesn't seem particularly charitable (not that a. you can't donate without broadcasting it or b. being charitable means you're a "nice" or "not nice" person).

he seems to be careful with his money and takes good care of himself and his family. i think there's a lot of value in that. from the perspective of the "poker community" i'm a fan of running it once, i guess. but on the whole, besides being a huge net winner, he's obviously a pretty large negative agent for other poker players.

You seem to be forgetting that poker players who donate to charity and don't do it anonymously are scumbags.

You do realize were it not for him, someone else would be doing similar content right?

A barrier to entry for players to make content like his is the success of his website (i.e why would people want to learn from crusher XYZ when G, what makes you think other high stakes pros wouldn't jump in and make content like his if he wasn't around?

Poker isn't even close to dead, go play 5/10 at your local casino and you'll find plenty of "2000s online poker" alive and well.

Secrets cannot be guarded, all it takes is one crusher to be done with poker and want to have a bit of side income going forward to spill it all, Galfond's site already has so much on it and is so much more well known) or not, the thing you're complaining about would happen regardless.

Something very similar happened to me with Ben Sulsky. He didn’t give me free coaching but he offered me some at a great price. We scheduled a 3hour group coaching session, for which he wanted money in advance. I sent the money (via bitcoin) in October. The moment I hear back from him, I’d let you know how it goes.

well, Vinivi did admit to be partially trolling (high quality trolling btw ).

He said 80% troll.

I put it closer to 30% troll, 70% still mad.

But, he did say something nice about Phil.

Peace and Goodwill in 2018.

1. i am going to make a bold unsubstantiated claim that you have made more $ off poker biz than poker for the last 10 years. maybe you'd feel differently if you were coming from the opposite side of things. its a new year and you should try to put yourself in someone elses shoes! peace and goodwill in 2018.

2. personal issue = selbst thread, where you seem to think the 10 posts hating on her are just random chance, and not a result of what only one person was stupid enough to put in text ("butch lesbians make me uncomfortable").

And people wonder why i said aggressive lesbians make me uncomfortable. If you quote me vinivici atleast do it correctly. I didnt say butch lesbians, i said aggressive lesbians. 1 post led to 20 posts attacking me. Hell i didnt even say i hated lesbians (which i dont). I just said aggressive ones make me uncomfortable.
