Not a bad take IMO. That said... we don't know everything that went into Galfond's decision to finally make a stand on this. He mentioned the opinions of poker's 'inner circle', which Polk took umbrage to. Galfond is probably privy to a ton of unknown info about ppl's interactions with Polk, after 10+ years being involved with poker's top tiers... ie not just the recent Jnandez and Carrell dramas.
There's a huge amount of irony here, with Polk talking about people wanting his head on a stick this week, and the huge amount of pressure he's under. An admittedly awful thing to be going through, and I genuinely can't imagine it. However, very recently, during the J4 drama, he really stoked the fires against Robbi by categorically calling her a cheat and contributing to the witchhunt/mob mentality. What he's experiencing is exactly what he put her through... whether she cheated or not.
I, like a lot of others, have a lot of respect for Polk's content and his poker insights. Personally, I think Galfond's essay is meant to be a wake up call to say, don't do s*** like that any more. It's crap, and there's no excuse for doing it, not for clicks, not even if you *really think it's probably true*, in Robbi's case.
Tbh, I actually think the way out for Polk is pretty easy here. Just post a YT video along the lines of "I never should have called Charlie a pedophile. I apologize unreservedly for that. I didn't like his tweet, I didn't think it was acceptable, and it offended me. In general, I also don't like how Charlie conducts himself on a personal level. As a result of these factors, I made the very bad decision to make statements about Charlie's character publicly. I am deeply sorry for the negative impact this had on his life. I will conduct myself very differently in future."
All this stuff is straight out of the #meToo aftermath playbook. He needs to really admit that he ACTUALLY ****ed up and plans to change... because everyone already knows he actually ****ed up, so what else can you do?
