I don't have anything particularly interesting to say on this topic, but...

...I agree that poker media as a whole has been a joke from day one, and has had plenty of time to evolve into something of actual use, rather than just propaganda.

See? Nothing interesting.

I gotta work on that.

These media outlets were built by people that loved the game of poker and the community. I would think at some point you would have enough boats and houses and actually have a conscience about doing the right thing. Without public scrutiny from these big media organizations, we don't put enough pressure on these big sites to make sure they are doing the wrong thing. If the sites feel like they will be ridiculed in the public to the even the most modest of players, they might think twice about trying to save a dollar on the most simple of security measures. And hopefully this will one day lead to all players being treated fairly and playing in a game of high integrity and security.
The problem is you're focusing on the things in life that don't really matter. When I was a kid I had hopes and dreams. We all did. But over time, the daily grind gets in the way and you miss the things that really matter, even though they are right in front of you, staring you in the face. I think the next time you should ask yourself "Am I on the right track here?". I don't mean to be rude but people like you I really pity. So maybe you could use the few brain cells you have and take advantage of the knowledge I have given you now. Good luck.

I was just wondering, in this increasing pathos of the online poker fracas, if the superusers and colluders first ply their trade at the play money tables, like a baseball farm team. That is some Teddy KGB ****** conspiracy if that's true.

As far as poker news, it's bad journalism. They should be ashamed.

I think everyone who plays and respects the game of poker would like for it to be protected and its integrity to be upheld. The sad truth of the matter is that online business of poker took a horrible turn when the UIGEA laws were passed. At this time many many investors in the publicly traded companies lost a ton of money with shares falling 60 percent. Many bailed out with their loses. Party poker and others pulled out of US markets. This is when UB went through ownership changes and the whole Super User scandle emerged. Those that chose to stay in the US are doing so at huge risk and uncertainty. And i dont believe for one minute they arent hedging that uncertainty and risk at the expense of their players. Until we get some sort of legal protection for these companies, its most likely that the players will never recieve any such protection as well. That is just that sad truth I'm afraid. I love the game of poker and want to see it legitamized and protected. Will that happen, yes i am certain it will someday. Soon? I can not say, but i can hope and we as players need to stay vigile at trying to police and protect the game as best we can in the mean time. Keep up the good work guys.

Excellent trolling, a person like you is worth less than 30 seconds of my time so I'll just leave it at that.

I just sent an email to Cardplayer asking if they happened to notice the problem at Cereus or if they were ignoring it because they advertise with them. I'll post their response if I get one.

This is at least a little misleading. Sure, news outlets make money from advertising; but with reputable news outlets you're going to at least get a disclaimer about potential conflicts of interest. Also, news outlets only make money off of advertising so long as people continue to use the outlet as a source for actual news. Once it's discovered that it's just a shill people should in theory stop reading it and then the advertisers pull their dollar anyway.

You're all right that news outlets exist to turn a profit; but it's unfair to lump the Washington Post/NY Times/AP etc. with the Bluffs and Cardplayers of the world.

I have to think the sites have to allow an independant computer inspection to take place. If they have nothing to hide they should have no problem doing this. This would resolve any integrity questions.

I'm not 100% on this but I think most of those news sites make their money by being affiliates for the poker sites. I know pokernews does. That being the case, they aren't really news sources as much as they are extensions of the poker sites marketing departments. They will act in their financial best interest which, as a marketer for poker sites, generally is what is in the sites best interest.

It's no surprise then that they would sugar coat or down play anything which makes their benefactors look bad, they know what side their bread gets buttered on.

But, I'm not sure that's true for all of them.

Just as a random example, I go to nytimes.com and one of the first things I see is an advertisement for united airlines and continental (which either just merged or are planning to merge or something). I search United Airlines on their search feature, and the first result I get is an article saying that the merger will hurt consumers in various ways.

There are lots of problems with the media in general, and I know people like to rag on them. But I think that their motivations are very rarely driven by their advertisers. Poker media can be the same way if people bitch about the current scummy way that they do business.

I don't know if this exists already, but what about an Admo style website that details everything people need to know. One thats obviously very SEO heavy and that doesn't look like a truther website so that people know the information on it is legit and can be found easily.

PND put up an article on the encryption issue, and this time didn't bury it in a promotion:

That's just because it was the ordering of the articles I think... I'm not sure why that double points thing went up.
