If he thought he was taking a souvenir, then in his mind there is no reason to fear being 86'd. That is consistent behavior.

FWIW, a guy once showed me a WSOP (Rio) black 100 chip that he kept as a souvenir. Said a floor guy gave it to him. True story.

you're not wrong, bigtex --- if someone wants a souvenir and feels the need to boast, just throw your winning money around with all your buddies after your big poker score. Your friends will be far more impressed than showing off a stolen 25k tournament chip.

You don't seem to pay very good attention.
No one is suggesting what he did, no matter his intentions, is right. It's called "stealing" for a reason. And you are right, there is no "legal" reason to steal. Do you see why?

The amount of tournament chips that go missing at the end of each WSOP (most because of souvenirs), is pretty big. I bet if you searched ebay right now you could find some.

This sounds like a perfect job for ol' whatshisname! He can add it to his operation to end the production of knockoff goods in China.

An account named candcgames has several wsop chips for sale on ebay now. Probably nothing shady going on...over 12k sales and all the chips seem to be vintage...don't recognize any chips that are currently in use.

I know it's against the rules, but do you guys have issues with people snagging a $25 or $100 tournament chip if they want them as souvenirs and have no intention or reselling/replicating them? Seems relatively harmless to me.

Why would that be ok, but doing the same with a 25k chip would not? They both cost $1.50 to make.

I've found tourney chips on the floor and turned them in rather than keep them.

Guys he could have easily taken it to the cage and left with $25k of your money, think about that!

For one to make counterfeit chips/items a master copy is needed. I'm not saying this is the case here, but is a possibility that those investigating would be looking at.

everyone likes to chirp on here and talk like things are facts when 90% of the time those people couldnt be any less informed about the actual details involved

he is obv just not the sharpest guy and got excited and wanted something to remind him of the win......people argue he has won before....oh boy 2 previous circuit rings ...terrific! im pretty sure i watch athletes who have made millions and won multiple championships keep random souvenirs from far from monumental accomplishments made in random situations

oh and lastly......the palm beach kennel club is the worst place ive ever played when it comes to the people who run it and the things they try to get away with ....its very shady ...and its the one place ive vowed to never play at again.....and this was way before this incident
So now the PBKC is to blame for him pocketing a chip? You can't be serious. Sounds like you're the one doing a lot of uninformed chirpping. If you believe that 25k wasn't coming into play later, you are green buddy. Have you ever MET this guy? Nuf said.

Problem is if the casinos started using RFID chips the VIG will go from 20-25% to 50% as they will not eat the cost. And then after getting away with charging the higher VIG they will keep doing it after the chip sets are paid for.

a) yes ive met him
b) do some research ...im far from green
c) the chip was never coming back into play
d) PKBC isnt to blame for him taking a chip...they are to blame for being a terribly run room

i don't know the guy, but I've played with him and I will say he has a personality in which I could definitely see him just impulsively thinking oooh cool i would love to have one of these chips as a souvenir from going back to back and probably getting casino champ, without thinking it through.

But I don't know him, he certainly could have been planning to cheat. Just saying when I saw the pic, I definitely thought his story more plausible.
