I'm guessing OP is the identity thief. He hacked Quaternion's AIM account several weeks ago and I've been playing along with him to gather evidence to use against him. Here's an excerpt from the chat:

We think this is a guy who lives in West Virginia who goes by the name stevedapimp. He likes to sprinkle his chat with personal details like Chris's wife's name and the city he lives in, but he's too stupid to realize that it's 8 am in Fairbanks when it's noon in WV so he says he's going to lunch. When you challenge him he gets hostile and takes the offense. Note the common theme of "why I was really banned from casinos."

There's kind of a feel to the language used by these con artists. They spin a web of rationalizations that don't really make sense...my card didn't work, my buddy needs help urgently, and so on. They try to convince you with a firehose of reasons that, individually, make little sense.

As soon as the transfer arrived I relayed the info to both FTP and PS security. PS requested I transfer the $400 back to 'twatazoid', who they believe to be an innocent party in this. I have no knowledge of the FTP account cursedbyagypsy other than stevedapimp's mentioning of it.

I don't think we should be so quick to dismiss this case and move on (if OP did indeed tell the story accurately)
It is interesting that his FTP account got blocked instantly after transferring money on Stars. To me it seems plausible (not saying probable) that someone within the security dept. in FTP is running a scam. However, to fully validate that claim, OP needs to post all correspondence with FTP. Questions that need to be answered are:
1. What was the reason for your FTP account being blocked (as stated by FTP in the emails)?
2. What is your current standing with FTP? Is your account still blocked or did you regain full access to it? If so, how?

The way you spelled out this scam, it seems the person running it seems capable of:
1. Hacking into AIM accounts of top pros
2. Being able to negotiate inter-site transfer (PS to FTP) on accounts belonging to prominent poker pros.
3. Restricting access to accounts on FTP (he would need to have some admin. power within the site to do this)

If this scam is really legit, then it seems that we have acted exactly as the scammers would want us to: we dismissed OP because "why would he need $500? if he's so rich?"

Truth may be that Richard himself is a victim and someone is dragging his name down while making a few dollars for himself.

Richard Brodie probably wouldn't bend over to pick up 500 dollars, he would hire somebody else to do it
