Online rolls if a player passes away

Anyone know if the families of players have the ability to claim any money back from the sites? Or do Stars and Tilt just get to keep the money of anyone who dies leaving money on their sites?

Re: Online rolls if a player passes away

stars would def send to my bank account once they had proof i died. then obv parents can close bank account and take it from there.

only problem might be that i don't tell my parents what sites i play on and i doubt they would bother to e-mail support.

what about FPPs - could they be used for a coffin or cremation? would Supernova Elites get added perks like brass handles?

I worked for Nordicbet 3-4 years back when a customer was stabbed and killed. The family took contact and his funds were wired to them.

Re: Online rolls if a player passes away

non issue IMO

no one dies when they are running hot.

Also....I checked with that big search engine and the term dead online poker player gave me

1st. Brandy

also on page 1...

but I do not know if this young lady is also dead.

I can't imagine they wouldn't turn the money over as required by a will or to next of kin if they're shown proof of death.

Re: Online rolls if a player passes away

ive actually thought about this a few times, and have figured it would be a good idea to tell my family where i keep a document of site passwords and things so they can cash out my money if i were to die

Re: Online rolls if a player passes away

As a standard ofcourse they would give the money back when proven person has died.

The thing I would like to know what they do if someone dies and nobody knows they had an account at some site. How long would the account have to be inactive before the site would start investigating themselves.

I don't know. Todd Brunson told me about a friend of his that passed a couple years back, with a large bankroll on Stars. The widow and kids were having a heck of a time trying to get the funds returned. Todd intervened on her behalf, and tried talking to them (they did succeed in getting him POd). As of the time he told me about it, she still hadn't got the funds returned. Never heard what happened. Maybe he'll read this and let us know what the outcome was, or maybe someone else knows the outcome.

Re: Online rolls if a player passes away

If an online site were based in the U. S., they would be legally obligated to escheat inactive accounts after a specified period of inactivity, usually about 7 years, depending in which state the site was based. The rightful owner, or their heirs, would then have a period of time to try to claim the funds. The claim period varies from state to state. I don't know the abandoned property laws of other countries.

this is what a will is for imo.

It is really smart to have all this stuff filed and locked away in case anything should happen.

Re: Online rolls if a player passes away

what if said player was in the middle of hand... flopped quads .. then villian went runner runner for straight flush and said player dropped dead of a heart attack having just lost his whole roll on a 25/50 NL heads up match.. does that hand still count?
