What are the rules of the “One time?”

Can you use it once per tourney?

I feel like it can be used once per day...

Other rules?

It is the dumbest saying in poker ever. You got guys that say one time after theyve won millions of dollars already. The saying is even worse than ship it and thats pretty dumb aswell.

Im saving my one time when im on my death bed

you get 1 per life, and if it hits, you should stop.

If you don't call for one time, tell the dealer what cards you need, ask for a new setup when you lose a pot, and sit out the downs of dealers who deal you bad beats you aren't maximizing your EV.

The TDA specifies 1 per 1620 days.
They track them and anyone exceeding their allocation is open to disqualification.

The other night, at Green Valley Ranch, I one time asked specifically for a Jack of Clubs on the turn. It came, so I felt obliged bet out, picked up the pot.

How long do I have to wait to do that again ?

Did you specifically say "Jack of Clubs, one time!" Or just ask for the Jack of Clubs?

As the dealer was burning, prefatory to dealing the turn, I said out loud, "I'd like the Jack of Clubs, please" ... it was the only time I asked for or predicted a card hitting the Board.

Does that mean I am allowed to do that again, without violating "one time" rules ?

(I did not particularly need that pot, had been hit with the deck for almost an hour, and was up quite a bit. I tried it to piss off the 5 or so OMCs in the game.)

You can root for/against cards all you want, that's fine. It's the "one time" that is the thingy

Thanks for the clarification ... If I am getting the specific card already upon request, not sure what the added value of a "one time" would be.

I was dealing a game once and the action on the turn went small blind checked, middle position (who covered the table) bet, button shoved all-in, small blind check-raise overjammed all-in. Middle position thinks about it for a good minute then looks at me and says "dealer, if you put a diamond on the river, two hundred dollar tip" and flicked in one chip for the call. I thumped the table and burned and turned the seven of diamonds. Dude tables A2dd for the nut flush and stood up clapped like a seal screamed YES BABY SHIP IT tossed me two black chips and did a lap around the table.

Im not a superstitious person but to this day after 5 years and hundreds of thousands of hands I've never called for my one time out of fear of getting what I wish for once and never again

Classic!
I use it on occasion and EVERY time it slips out subconsciously. I dont really like the expression. Its almost as bad as ship it. I used to let ship it tilt me. Now I just realize that some people are just morons.

I believe the one time can be used once a day, not once a tourney.

I also believe it works.

I hit a 2 outer queen to survive day 1 on Thursday. Guy hit a 2 outer queen on me asking for his one time ( I had aces) and busted me in todays final day. Smh

So what happens if you ask for one time and don't get it? Does that mean you wasted your one time? Or it doesn't count? I don't believe players should be results oriented with their one time.

Also, if you try to use your one time after having already used it (remember you only get one in your life) then the poker gods should strike you down with lightning for blaspheming them.

It doesn't count if you don't get it, correct. The one time counts if you call for it and you get it, then it's spent.

It means you’re being punished for the awful things you’ve done in your life.

Very intrigueing. I believe if you ever violate the "one time" rules it becomes truly a "one time" one time.
