First of all, congratulations to liv on the divorce. Secondly, I would like to bet $350 on liv. For the record I know nothing of the other guy but 20lb advantage is huge and liv should leverage that. Liv's passion to win has also been one of his biggest advantages and I predict it will pay off in dividends here. Note, if either of you have a concussion this is a minus EV bet. Work on your ground game Liv and take the fight to the ground EVERY TIME.
JC has experience in grappling tourneys (I think?)... Which would lead me to assume JC would prefer the ground, while Liv would prefer striking
Hey guys, I think a wide receiver is better at being a wide receiver than a track runner is at being a wide receiver. Because track runners are pansies!!!!
Most poker players never had social lives, so while most of us got rid of the "fighting is cool" trait when we were sophomores in college, they are just starting to feel the urge to prove themselves. First guy who slips and twist an ankle loses.
People claiming that 20 lbs is a huge deal, if the smaller guy [JC] is [somewhat] trained in MMA, seems way off to me.
Obviously JC's not going to be the long lost member of the Gracie family but he still has to be the favourite if he's at all trained.
Spoiler:
I'll be shocked if link works, just search Royce Gracie vs sumo wrestler on YT. Technology hard.
Liv's drawing slim but far from dead. If he's dedicated and invests in intelligent coaches, good sparring partners. I think it gives him enough time to have a small chance of winning.
JC's been training since the Robl fight talk and has a ton more experience in an mma gym. It's his fight to lose.
Liv must get into a great camp and devote his life to training. CM punk's doing the same thing. Starting from scratch and eventually have an mma fight.
Coaches will be huge in how far he develops, good thing Liv's got the money to buy a world class coach's service.
I'll second what Rosicky had said here. If JC can roll at blue belt standard in bjj that 20lbs doesn't mean anything. It takes a long time to get good at bjj unless you are one of the few exceptions like bj penn. Unless liv is a bjj prodigy I predict tap or snap.
Don't underestimate those 20lb on the ground. These are very easy to compensate against a clueless opponent, but once he learns the fundamentals it gets difficult pretty quickly. Especially when liv will probably just look to defend/stay out of troubles on the ground and has no reason to open up.
It really depends how long JC has been training, if he is a fresh blue (ie <2 years) then 6 months preparation may well be enough for liv to stay out of troubles given the 20lb weight advantage. Those are two full IBJJF weight classes fyi.
Jiu jitsu technique takes a lot of repetition in order to become natural and not have to slowly think your way through; maybe he'll just pick it up really quick but most can't.
There's also an open class at competitions - from my experience the super heavyweights rarely win this.
There's almost no chance that liv could win a pure BJJ/grappling match with 6 months training against JC, even with the 20lb advantage. But learning enough to stay out of troubles and get back to his feet is a much, much easier task. Especially without the gi.
Just doesn't feel very hype worthy but I'm sure I'll tune in and watch it.
of course its not worth the hype. best case senario they go into it with no training to see who can eat the most akwardly thrown haymakers and find out whose a beast . or they train for a few months and you get to see ulta boring super weak amateur mma. not to mention they're taking the risk of head trauma when there career relies on being mentally sharp.

lol stereotypical nvg hater much?
Ok so 2 seriously motivated, athletic guys who are fighting for 6 figures each are going to not train or it will just be "boring"...

no i said " best case senario they go into it with no training to see who can eat the most akwardly thrown haymakers and find out whose a beast" which would be exiting to people that know them. or they train and you get to watch beginners try to apply very difficult fighting concepts and it will look alot like amateur mma ( if they try hard). it just seems like wanna be late bloomer tough guys. btw being in shape has little to do with atheleticism.
this controlled fighting is not the same as real fighting ,the variables in a street fight run the gammet ,many times it the guy who is capable of doing anything over a trained guy.
