They've known him since the days he was known only as Jerome and played underage in the casinos of Atlantic City.
"We've been coming out here for 10 or 11 years. We always come out for two weeks to support him."

Yeah, seems strange to me. I remember they did a little bit about them on ESPN WSOP coverage a few years ago.

But I guess it's not that much weirder than somebody being a fan of Roger Federer or something.

Played with the old man at the Trump Taj in AC New Years 08-09. He's pretty solid and had a $1800ish stack at 1/2nl.

I asked a dealer about it at the Bellagio. He said they are good friends with Ivey and they have dinner with him and his wife.

I would have to think that the man knew Phil was a major talent to have been following him since before, presumably, Phil had any kind of roll. I mean there are people moving out to vegas to play poker every day that just go busto. They had some reason to think Phil would be different.

I remember an old documentary on the WSOP I saw on pokertube on the (i think) 99 main event. The narrator was like "every year hundreds of hopeful gamblers come here to pony up their $10,000 for a shot at poker immortality" and the camera showed an apparently random group of people going down a casino escalator. One of them, a young Phil Ivey, glares up right into the camera as he descends down into the poker room.

Reminds me of this dude I used to work with while I was in high school. He was in a band that ended up becoming somewhat famous. Everyone that worked with him either became huge haters (jealous) or obsessive fans

They play at the tropicana in AC alot. She plays 2-5 and he plays 1-2. He seems to do well in the game. They know Phil from when he used to play underage at the Trop and they go out to Vegas every year to see him play.
