Mincash in this event = W2 for $996 (except that's probably too low to even get one.) Lose another $10k, write it down in your notebook, claim it as gambling losses against other gambling winnings (if you are US citizen and itemizing...)

My point was the WSOP reports to the IRS the *net* win for every tournament. You can't cash and lose money because of taxes.
