Squeezing is when you're all in and drawing and need to hit and your opponent has already shown their hand so you know what you need to catch to win. Happens a lot in draw games but also in stud.
You place the card with a long edge nearest you and peel up the side but block the corners with your thumbs so you can't see what it is. Then you peel it up slightly more to see if it's a picture, a four across (a 10 or 9), a three across (8, 7 or 6), a two across (5 or 4) or a none across (3, 2, or ace) and what the suit is. If this combo means you're still live, you then peel a bit more to see exactly what number it is or peel your thumb off one of the corners.
You usually commentate as you do it, for the sweat: "ok I need a 98732 or diamond.....it's a none across....spades...(look to see what none across spades have already been shown-spot the 2 in your opponents hand)...ok so I'm even money (it's either the 3 or the ace)...damn ace, GL everybody"
The slower you do it, the luckier it is
