Also people like to watch people they can relate to. Your average viewer is going to be more inclined to tune in if the table is full of people who talk and act like him than if it's full of stone faced Czech's who aren't very easy to relate to.
With the final table increasingly becoming composed of online players, the lack of "personality"/talkative players can be attributed more to the fact that online players are generally less social/talkative at the table and less the fact that they are from a different country. Last year, it can be argued that the most "interesting" or "exciting" player was Filippo Candio.
Being American has nothing to do with it.
