It feels odd starting this thread because I don't know much about the man but with all the talk about the money former FTP owners owed the company and Lederer patting himself on the back it feels like Scheinberg is being under-appreciated. In the over 3.5 hours of videos of Lederer talking about how he tried to get players paid I do not remember Scheinberg's name ever coming out of his mouth.

I'm hoping others can contribute more to this thread since I know so little.

All I know is this. He's a guy that created by far the most popular online poker site. A site that not only said they cared for it's players but proved it time and again by listening to us when we thought there could be improvements or when we had complaints. The software and reliability was great and the customer service was even better.

While I wished Black Friday played out differently PokerStars didn't leave it's players in the lurch. Not only that, PokerStars came to the rescue of FTP's players.

As part of his settlement with the DOJ he has to step down from this incredible company he built which has to be quite difficult.

Thank you Mr. Scheinberg for everything you've done.

He bought ftp to prevent someone else from buying it. If ft reopens as a competitor instead of a partner then pstars loses money. Its all about money. Its not a goodwill gesture to the poker community, its about the long-term fiscal health of his company. Fortunately for everyone what helps him turns out to help us.

Plus he gets a new (but very expensive) travel visa to the USA and has wiped the slate clean with regards to possibly providing a service to the USA in the future.

Once again 2+2ers are going to thank or criticize someone in the online poker business for how their actions affected them personally when all the person did was act on behalf of his own self interests and whatever or whoever was affected by their actions so be it. He's been great for poker players so I like him but nobody made more from this business than he did so he's been justly rewarded.

There are so many examples of poker sites screwing over players for their own self interests. PokerStars is a shining example showing it's possible to run a successful online poker site that respects and protects it's players.

Whether he or others profited or had other incentives to do so doesn't really matter. There is usually some sort of personal gain when someone does something good for others. PokerStars isn't a charity so I don't understand why it matters if they profited or not. Scheinberg made his money in online poker without his company stealing from it's players which sadly makes him stand out from other poker sites in recent news.

That's true. He's run a respectable, legitimate business and is now the richest man in poker. Maybe others should learn from him. I paid 40K a year to Mr. Sheinberg in rake as "protection" money to see that I would get paid and he paid me and he was the only one of the 5 families that did. Bless you sir!!

The only reason is that RAKE is a little high on Stars. Other than that, if you were a winning player you wouldnt be complaining.

The DOJ settlement included specific language that both sites could return to the US market [if laws clearly allow it]. The requirement for Scheinberg to step down from PokerStars was likely a big concession to insert that language into the settlement. I don't know if you've ever built or created anything you're proud of (does building a false persona to get stakes count?) but it's hard to step away from it.

The DOJ also had some big settlements with financial institutions after the 2008 problems. Goldman Sachs had to pay $550 million in fines and their settlement didn't include any language concerning there owners or managers. Heck, they even put Paulson in charge of the Treasury.

Here's a company that had pretty much been at the center of the financial crisis which resulted in trillions of dollars of loses and global economic problems. PokerStar's punishment seems much harsher in comparison.

And the dude didn't give a 7 hour interview trying to explain how great he was. Class act.

This man has good to us in plenty of ways. His actions represent as far as I know the best definition of enlightened self-interest.

I also wonder whether I should praise individually owned companies as opposed to companies ran by multiple shareholders; I suspect the success of Pokerstars is due in large part to its structure, i.e. having a man with a vision free to implement it, while FTP's failures have to do as much with its structure, i.e. many men fighting over competing visions with some men engaging in grave errors as they try to protect their position against intra-company infighting.

While I don't agree with a lot of decisions Stars made in the last years, Isai is clearly running the most successful and respectable online poker room and it's not even close.

The rake at PS is the lowest in the industry for most games (but I agree that it's still too high).

I hope if I get in court for a poker case while being on tap by the FBI that you will come in court with all Pokerstars privately owned stats and expert council and prove them that it's a game of skill.

Yes, that is really his account. It was outed by a Stars employee.

The only thread he started is pretty hilarious. Notice the one vote.

Unbelievable how people in this thread dislike all companies period.

OMFG full tilt didn't have our money, raise the pitch forks ffs, we all want them on the stakes.

OMG pokerstars paid us back but their rake is high enough where they are profiting so much off me.

What is next?
