You created a threat topic in NVG which is obviously politically charged, and will therefore get a range of political responses.

And yet every post that didn't subscribe to the groupthink claptrap of "Adelson=Bad" was deleted/scrubbed by a mod for being "polititard".

I guess politics is OK in NVG as long as it agrees with a Mods views?

I am the mod that got rid of the political posts and some of the ridiculous bickering posts that resulted from those posts. It had nothing to do with Mason.

No politics in NVG as per the rules sticky. I was nice enough not to ban people as some of the posting was terrible and fair warning has been given in the NVG rules sticky

There were several posts in the thread that were not political and stayed on topic. I am thinking you are a bit of a political junkie so go ahead and post this topic with a political sway in the Politics forum.

Your point is fair, but I don't think it's "balanced discussion" for posters, who probably don't know Gavin or maybe even never met him, to be proclaiming in this thread that "he died of alcoholism". Mods should be cleaning up that BS in this thread. And Mods can feel free to delete this response as well. RIP Gavin.

I don’t think it’s possible to celebrate his life by remembering stories about him without thinking about alcohol. Nobody questions that he had a sober-life and his good friends can certainly share stories about that, but I doubt I am the only one in here who met him a couple times at a poker table and will remember him as a super fun guy who obviously liked to drink.

Quickly though to you Madlex, posting about drinking and fun times is great. I was actually referring to the posts relating to alcoholism which were in the process of becoming an unneeded derail.

I agree that stuff doesn’t have a place in the thread.

I think hiding the realiites of alcoholism (as well as drug addiction and mental illness) as if it is something to hide is what creates a society of shame.

Why was the "Pokerstars partners with the UFC thread" completely removed from 2+2 a few days back? This is certainly news worthy and I personally enjoyed reading Gzesh's thoughts on the topic.

I am not sure but it may have been removed by mistake (perhaps by me).

And FWIW, he effectively is "the forum police" - what he did is one of things forum moderators are here for. I have no idea what you think it has to do with morality - it's obviously about having respect in an "RIP" thread. I get that you may feel that's overkill, but others feel differently about threads like that, and playing it up with phrases like "insist on being the forum police", "if your going to tell people how to post", and "imposed your own version of morality" as if he's some sort of power-abusing control freak is just silly. Forum mods and many posters want to keep it a respectful celebration of life; I'm sure there are lots of other threads where you can have a debate over the pros and cons of too much alcohol.

fwiw I didn't mention anything in regards to lifestyle choices in that thread based on my choice... but I feel others should be allowed to should they feel like it. It's called freedom.

R+R has taken a far too leftist stance in many threads and others have reached out to me for they appreciate someone who is willing to call a spade a spade regardless of the consequences.

This forum is drying up for decent discussion and I feel it's likely that many are becoming too afraid to speak their minds.

My decision is final. The Gavin thread won't include discussions about alcoholism (although I think it is very important to have open discussions about this topic in the appropriate places including here on twoplustwo if someone chooses to start a discussion where it fits). Nor will the thread include discussions on the idiotic topic of who donated how much on the gofundme page.

Other threads Bobo... The Gavin Smith one just broke the camels back. Basically it's not ok to say rude things (even if fact justified) about certain people whereas other people can be crapped on based on rumours.
