He won 100k. AND became a legend in the process
More like a cautionary tale. I can see an entire generation of old poker farts gathering their grandchildren around to horrify them with the "Tale of Isildur...."
Makes me suspicious that the Isildur account is being played by a young and upcoming player - You'd have to be pretty dense to risk 5 million if it was all the $$ you had. I can see certain scenarios:
1) Trust fund brat who is set for life and just doesn't give a f*ck
2) Someone of Darvin "waterbuffalo" Moon'esqe intelligence who is on the mother of all heaters and really doesn't understand how fortunate he is - (probability next 2 zero given the level of play overall)
3) A young gun with waaaaaay more balls than brains who is unbalance mentally and *really* thought he was chosen by God, or Thor or Odin to subjugate the entire poker world in a month
Hardly exhaustive, but I'm loathe to understand how a guy with enough smarts to roll roll a smallish (read < 2 million) stake up and take a shot at the high stakes games, and then manages to make some serious casheesh, lacks the intelligence to tuck at least 1/2 away for that rainy day we call "life".
So I have to wonder. What makes more sense is that Isildur is either an established player with a MUCH bigger bankroll than has thus far been assumed - or - take your pick of conspiracy theories - a team of Swedish programmers a la Linus Torvalds who got some financial backing to test Omaha software developed along the lines of the University of Alberta holdem project - a team of players working together - whatever. I don't give much weight to any ideas like this - but it's fun to speculate.
My guess is a swede who's been killing the Euro games, loaded a good chunk of his bankroll on FTP and decided to give the biggest online games a shot - he started absolutely killing the games and made that most egregious of errors - became a legend in his *own* mind and overplayed his hand and bankroll - He wouldn't be the first. Kaibuxxe, ICallSowhat, and hell, Gustav and other more established players come to mind... Nobody is immune. If you're going to play 500/1000, no less a player than Galfond has said you should have 20,000,000 and then be prepared to lose it. All.
Ergo - Cautionary tale. Too bad - I'd have loved to see him (if he is an up and coming young Swede as advertised) tuck some away and stick around to entertain us for years to come.
