My guess.... don't assume that just because PokerStars purchased FTP that they intend to keep it indefinitely. The most obvious course of action, which also seems to be consistent with the approach they announced they will take with FTP, is for them to get the site back online, get players paid, restore the brand and make the site profitable again.
At which point it will be more valuable asset that can be sold. Most likely to a credible US operator (casino) once the legality of online poker is clarified in the US. Price will be steep for PokerStars to recoup what they had to pay to players and to get the site back on track but deal can include a not uncommon provision that a portion be paid from the company's profits over the course of many years.
It doesn't have to be a US operator but I think that would be the most profitable. I'm reading a lot between the lines here but this is why I think the deal makes me hopeful that online poker will come back to the US soon.
If I'm correct... Don't expect any features that would closely integrate the sites that would have to be disabled after a sale. Don't expect changes that would make FTP objectively equal to or better than Stars.
Do expect that the software and infrastructure will be at least be brought current as if the company has been in more or less continuous operation up to this point. Do expect (I hope) PokerStars to clean house within the ranks of FTP. Maybe some changes to promotions/rakeback/etc depending on how they impact financials.
In my view FTP's ultimate demise was it's desire to beat PokerStars which led them to make stupid decisions and spend more than they could. PokerStars won't have that problem so it shouldn't be hard to get the company healthy again.
For all intents and purposes, the sites should be considered two separate companies and not one if you want your suggestions to go through.
These are just my views. I have no inside information but I have "independently confirmed this by thinking about it."
tl;dr not sure why I responded to you
might need to remember the password to my blog if things are headed where I think they are
