lol..DN can tell you more than I can, but I believe he's friends with Mike and at least on good terms with Phil. He "bashes" them because they constantly talk about how much better than everyone else they are. Mike's talk is partially just smack, but Phil believes it. Considering Mike likes to tilt off his stack and Phil blind his off, the "razzing" is appropriate. He's not doing this to the standard donk, just the two guys he knows and who are frequently out-of-line.

As for his existence in this forum, I think there is a huge difference between looking for approval and defending yourself (and looking for evaluations of play to improve yourself). I tend to lean towards the latter in his case, but only DN can say for sure.

How much to raise preflop depends on lots of things, and it would be hard to find a less important aspect of the game IMO than 2.5x vs 3x.

A smallish raise is just one more weapon in the arsenal.

I probably would have been raising 5x vs many of the pre-boom dip****s just to get more money in the pot with good hands in position, and folding instead of playing marginal crap just because I was in position, because you didn't need to find thin edges in those fields. I'm not saying DN was wrong if he was raising small back then, but there are multiple issues to consider.

Daniel

When you played in the "big game" in 200x and charted your results, you realised that you were a dog in most of the games but felt like you had a good edge in some.

What happened that prevented you from continuing to improve your weaker games and becoming a regular big game player? Was it life away from poker?

I disagree. I don't think you can get away with raising big in particular post top 15 when the play gets shorter and the field gets tougher. If someone is x3ing to my right at that stage I am usually pretty happy about it. 1 more bb is a lot.

I'd say raising less than x3 IS a revolution in tournament NLH. Just 1 year ago 3betting smaller in pos with a wide range (because the stack/pot ratio diminishes in 3b pots) wasn't even that common. That play is a corollary to what DN apparently started doing and even in cash games where everyone is rock solid, nowadays it's considered a std. So the "concept" DN thought of (raising smaller in pos when eff. stack / pot ratio is smaller) wasn't even properly used in 2009 in cash games. When you think in these terms it's revolutionary, at least in my humble opinion.

I would insta, insta stop playing MTTs if I was somehow forced into raising x3 in late stages.

As an aside, much respect to DN. This thread shows how different he is from the rest of the laughable pros around.

What an awesome pro to represent pokerstars.

Re: nutsinho tells kidpoker he still hasn't learned how to play poker

I'll admit I don't play these stakes, or anywhere near them. But it seems to me that the fold equity that DN would get from shoving here comes from precisely these JQ sorts of holdings, where nutsinho doesn't know whether even his top pair is any good.

Nutsinho called light -- and he guessed right -- but the "semi" part of this semi-bluff kicked him in the pants. It happens. I probably would not have made the call. I certainly wouldn't have gone off on some rant about how stupid a play the villain made -- and I say that as a guy who drinks a pretty fair amount.

I'm looking forward to Negreanu's next High Stakes Poker performance. I always root for him but it never works out. Hopefully playing all this high stakes online stuff will help him a ton. Fingers crossed
