There's actually a ton of white guys who speak great Cantonese playing poker around Macau. I can think of at least a dozen who speak better than me. Then there's a lot that have some mandarin skills. There's also hundreds/thousands of expats in Hong Kong that have learnt Cantonese.

Impossible?
Wow, like I said three posts back, I was unclear and was more so referring to how difficult it is for a guy who just came to town to play poker. Of course it's not impossible, I really wasn't being literal.

Sorry, I missed the backpedal. Sorry for misunderstanding your original post, although you've gotta admit that it's pretty easy too misunderstand as it's written.

Im not talking about the big games, but the ones that let you allow to make a living. 2-4, 5-5 NLHE and higher. Do they run frequently and are you getting action when sitting down and being a foreigner? What does it cost to rent an apartment? Are there other things to do besides gambling? Like fun stuff while being a feoreigner who doesnt speake the language. Is it easy to meet people .? Does the government allow you to stay for a while? rules concern visa. Is it easy to take money out of the country? Like easy to deposit on own foreign account? Maybe the last question is a but stupid, but i have no clue whatsoever..
All sorts of information can be found in the huge thread Poker in Macau.
Start by going there. The answers to your other questions are yes, yes, 4000-15000 HKD/month depending on your needs, No, somewhat, 30 days to start with, yes and yes.

ok thnx. Will take me some time to get through that one 1 fast question. You say 30 days to start with, then what? Lets say I want to stay for half a year? And what if I want to live there permanently?

Are you there to exploit the business urself?

The latest hearsay is the Durr is now 1.7 million USD winner and that Ivey has gotten back to even. I think if they continue to win they WILL NOT be invited back IMO.

lol - no. You can rent decent studio apartments in Taipa for less than 3K a month. Some Swedish friends rented a 3BR apartment in wan yu tian xia that was very nice, and they paid way too much for it, as well as having signed the contract before the crash - it was 10K / mo. They also had a place that they also paid way too much for that was located between Starworld and Lisboa (very good location), and that was 6K a month. If you can read Chinese or know someone who can, I suggest you just search on Google for Macau rental websites, contact landlords directly, and go from there.

Also - EU citizens can stay for 6 months, not 30 days.

Go to Hong Kong once a month for a weekend. Usually another 30 days. Permanently is different and difficult.

I'm doing it live in Macau at present. You can ask me any questions in that thread and I'll give you honest answers; the Poker in Macau thread is quite huge and there's a lot of pokerroom employees getting any negative feedback deleted and putting spin on everything.

I don't know about the studio apartments but that sounds cheap and a good option for young singles. Nova City, Hoi Ming Goi and Manhattan go up to 15k for a large four bedroom including clubroom, pool and gym. Like I say, it all depends on your needs.

Rake is really bad in Macau unfortunately - 25/50 is 5% up to 200, which is pretty massive.
