Nah - two years ago, Macau was a goldmine, now, not so much. I recall making a lot of money over Chinese New Year two years ago - a lot of people did, so I'm sure there is at least one other person on here who can back this up. At that time, all you had to do was raise your large hands very large for value, setmine, and limp all cards that can make nut-hands. Then, you'd value bet when you hit, and get paid off by four people until the river.
Tournaments were also fishy - maybe even more than the cash games. I recall rushing to a 150K GTD at Grand Waldo with a couple of friends because there was a sick overlay (like 50K). I was seated at a table of unattended chip stacks with my two friends, an American kid, and some middle aged Chinese dude. Even though half of the seats were empty, while fighting over dead money, the American kid lost half of his stack somehow. My memory on this hand is a bit hazy, but this is the gist of it.. Kid opens up UTG, I fold, Chinese guy 3-bets, two friends fold, the kid thinks for a while, and ships. Chinese dude snap-calls. Kid tables JJ, Chinese dude has 75o. Obviously the board brings the Chinese dude a straight. American kid looks really sad, and saunters away from the table. As soon as he's out of earshot, Chinese dude proudly proclaims "these young kids - sometimes you've just got to mix it up against them!"
Those were the days - they were great - but they're not coming back any time soon.
