Hard to look at a list and notice if anything got missed - but a couple of things jumped out at me for 'Moment of the Year' ... guess because they were being streamed, with hole cards and live commentary?:

  1. The slowroll in the Aussie Millions ME last year that wound up going awry (with Sam Abernathy)
  2. The $250k Aria Super High Roller Bowl - Phil Helmuth goes on a 'rampage'
  3. The retired truck driver Vietnam vet with the unconventional style who went super deep in the WSOP heads-up tourney
  4. Qui Nguyen in the WSOP ME

A couple of others came to mind as well

Some guy made scores of $162k and $455k (both Twitch records), played a $100k SHR before 21,000 viewers, battled Sauce/Jungleman/Ike/etc at HSHUNL, and consistently ranked top 3 in viewership.

Said some critical things about GPL and PokerStars though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Wow, that just shows how long last year felt. That moment seemed like years ago but you're absolutely right, it was the Aussie Millions. Crazy.

I assume these are awards for live tournaments, since that is what GPI tracks, right?

Yeah, so true - even two weeks seems like a lifetime ago ...

Every year it seems like the list has people wondering about the process, and about how the picks were made, and stuff (who qualifies, how did they get picked, etc)

Wonder how different the list might turn out if it everybody had a chance to make nominations?

Or if there were other categories, like 'Best Villain'? Don't have anyone in particular in mind, but that might be a fun one

it's about Twitch and/or Podcast and SrslySirius is referring to this Dan guy, who recently streams his 'poker attempts'. he gets eaten by the sharks on YT and regularly flamed on twitch though. total loser, he even couldn't make the brains win #sad

I'm curious as to how they'll justify giving DNegs the pod of year over Chicago Joey.

Better be good.

Staples or Tonkaaaaaa for Twitcher, probably Staples . Carver took over 6 months off throughout the year, hard to argue for him.
I didn't even know Negs had a podcast until reading the OP and I'd give that accolade to Joey.

Staples is not a winning player. There is no way they would give CSGO streamer of the year to a silver Elite. Scott ball gave me some bs answer about how they used stats and consistency to compose the list.

Doug
Tonka
Jcarver
Kevin

With one of the top3 winning. It's also quite clear that Doug and Jason don't have plans to stream on twitch past 2017

The twitch streamer of the year has to be TONKAAAA. He started twitch without an established fan base like jcarver (riu) and wasnt a sponsored site pro . He quickly became the #2 and can compete with jcarver for the #1 spot for viewers . On top of that he's had some 6 figure scores on stream . No way jcarver should win ( if he does that's a joke and obv pokerStars influence ) jimmy stapler should not have been nominated ( again obv stars influence ) / Doug was robbed of a nomination and a potential win ( he or tonkaaaa) Kmart has really improved his game / has grown his viewerbase and deserved the nomination.

When Jason started getting real big (mid-15?), he often mentioned that he has a two year plan for Twitch and perhaps he meant through 2017. I doubt he's mentioned it now as the day gets closer to when he wants to go away but it's been in the cards* for some time.

How does the dominating performance at wsop ft get no mention, and someone playing horribly and backing in to a wpt title gets nominated for 2 awards?

At least they aren't shameless enough to nominate GPL for media content of the year.

I'm guessing it's because DNegs does a podcast and Chicago Joey doesn't....
