I knew Anna when we were kids pre-poker pre-survivor ... she was a super nice and really funny girl ... a funny thing happens to people as they get older and get kinda dug into the ego ... they grow averse to change in the world, and the "what if" thoughts start to be something they listen to as reason rather than as noise ... if you don't take some time to analyze the survivalist/doubting nature of thought, it's easy to fall victim to fear and cling to anything you can for stability, whether it's routines or conspiracies or simply just having an "enemy" to work against ... in truth, you don't really have any natural enemies in this world, but with many people telling them that is like petting a dog that was abused by their previous owner ... they're going to flinch ... watching average people get so mixed up and turned sideways by politics is really saddening, and it'll take time for the people who are really scared to be able to trust again ... it feels like Anna lost track of the plot a long time ago, and at this point is just too attached to the things she's said and done in the past to really take a clear look at them ...
There's a lot of "woke" realizations that seem to paint a very adversarial relationships between people, groups, technology, and the environment ... if you stay there in that paranoid us vs them mindset, and think you've got things figured out, you likely end up very very lost in the sauce ... the funny thing is that people arrive at such awful and uncomfortable positions and beliefs via a certain type of mindset/thinking (egoic "what if"s) and don't consider that if the belief system/thinking process results in a stupid idea, there is something wrong with the process/belief system and not the world around them ... understanding these people doesn't absolve them of their ignorance, but I think pity/compassion is better than regarding them as some permanent enemy ... evolution hits some harder than others, and these dinguses will actually wake up eventually and realize they are part of the world, not a combatant within it ... it is always a rough time realizing you are the villain, and it's the realization that seems to take the longest for people since the ego will always fight against any new perspectives or change to continue to justify its necessity
