If you are an Illinois player, you might want to consider donating to the PPA to help fight this. Complaint alleges after six months anyone can sue you for triple your winnings and court costs. Lawyers in the thread say its not an insane suit.

Just skimmed the thread, but if plaintiff wins, does that mean if I play poker vs. someone in Illinois, I should lose lots and I'd get to recover my loses threefold in court

Or just sue anyone you can find in Illinois who won six or more months ago and hasnt been sued. You dont have to play to sue. If he wins it ends online poker in the state and puts all money ever won by players in the state at risk of trebled losses

Cliffs:

Well known Illinois players being sued for their winnings and treble damages under a statute that says players who lose more than $50 at gambling can sue to recover their losses. If a player doesn't suee within six months, than anyone can bring a civil action.

Plaintiff hasnt played defendents, but wants three times their MTT winnings.

If this is valid, then
A) let Illinois player win monies
B) Sue Illinois player six months later
C) Profit! You get 3x the winnings, Illinois player is out three times what they won.

If it wins, GG poker in Illinois.

Simple solution: Argue that they lost to you on purpose in order to sue you, and then countersue them for 9 times your winnings. Oh wait...

Plaintiff does not contend to be a losing player. He's suing under a portion of the law that says if the losing player doesnt sue in six months, anyone can file a civil action to recover damages.

Isn't the plaintiff also gambling, therefore breaking the law. Wouldn't the clean hands premise apply here?

The plaintiff likely never played online poker ever, he doesn't have to be the loser or even ever have been dealt a hand before filing this suit

it seems ridiculous that a few players are being targeted when there are hundreds if not thousands of other players participating in the same tournament. it would make more sense to target the sites but of course that would never go anywhere. this is on top of the whole thing being scummy.

Personally, I loved the fact that he could not be bothered to proofread his website...yes, that misspelling of 'representing' actually appears on the idiot's website.

Not sure about US, but in UK you have to prove that some sort of damage happened to you. i.e appellant a can't sue respondent b because party c broke his leg in a car crash caused by b, which in no way affected the the appellant, but party c waived his right to sue. There is also the neighbourhood principle which i could go into.

I'm sure US law isnt that different in damage principles
