The new wsop ladies event is a $10k buyin. Women get in at a 9k discount or only $1k.

Is this legal? I know there have been lawsuits over special prices for drinks on ladies nights at bars. This appears similar.

Can u charge a different price for something solely based on the persons gender?

I love it.....

Now these fat nerds won't get in it to get attention. Just because you have bigger titties doesn't mean you should be playing in the ladies event.

How does the prize pool work with this scenario? Does the wsop add 9k to pool for every female registrant?

Yes, perfectly legal in Nevada. Think of it like movie theaters giving ticket discounts to seniors/children.

Very legal. Already discussed here:

and suggested it in 2011:

Don't you think that the WSOP had their legal team investigate it before deciding to do it.

Actually a male professional poker player probably could write off the entire $10k as a gambling expense.

Since it's a discount, does that mean the WSOP adds 9k to the prize pool for every lady?

It's legal in Nevada, but there are states where it is not legal. Promotions/discounts based on age are treated differently than promotions and discounts based on gender.

Nevada law allows discriminatory discounts, done to "promote or market the place of public accommodation", while purporting to prohibit outright discrimination. Whether this passes legal muster depends on whether it qualifies as promoting or marketing the Rio/WSOP. I don't think it's clear that it does.

dont see why they would have to add 9k per person to the prize pool? imo its more like a 1k event for ladies, but if douchbags wanna play they have to pay 10k rather than a 10k even with a ladies discount

It seems weird to say "the new wsop ladies event is a $10k buyin" when in actual fact it's a $1k buyin for 99% of the player pool / the intended player pool.

Seems more accurate to say "the new wsop ladies event is a $1k buyin, is it fair to charge men $10k to play it".

That way it's more men are being charged an additional fee, rather than women getting a discount.

That has serious implications for the legality of it.

lol how does this help? They could also write off 10k as a gambling expense if they lose it playing craps.
