John Duthie resigns as CEO of Euro Poker Tour Ltd


Having founded and helmed the European Poker Tour since 2004, John Duthie has made the decision to leave the company on the termination of his existing contract, which expired on 31st December 2011.

‘It is time to move on and to leave the EPT in the capable hands of the existing management team.’ Duthie said, ‘ It has been a fascinating and challenging seven years and I have watched the EPT grow phenomenally in that time, thanks to the support of the players and the professionalism of a great team on the ground.’

‘There are going to be some amazing opportunities coming up in 2012/13 as the US market prepares to open up for business once again and I want to be available to take on new challenges and to cement new relationships moving forward.’

‘PokerStars have been an interesting partner from the outset and have always proved challenging and dynamic. Currently they are the largest online poker site in the world and their dominance of the European Market is in many ways thanks to the success of the European Poker Tour and the resultant massive exposure on European TV channels.’

‘The secondary International Tours that spawned from the EPT also gave PokerStars a strong foothold in many other markets.’

‘I feel very proud to have been part of this growth and look forward to utilising the knowledge I have gained elsewhere. I wish the new President of the company, Mr Edgar Stuchly, the best of luck in his position and trust that he will oversee the continued growth of the largest poker tour in the world’

A shameless abuse of the forum. However as I don't seem to be able to send out a mass Press Release why not ask a friend to do it for me on here before disappearing into the ether. At least I know the word will get round!!

P.S. Can you confirm the rumor that your split with PokerStars and the EPT was because of a heated argument over making Strip Badugi the main event?

Given that poker is 90 fat/average-looking guys its probably a good thing that it got passed on.

Though it would have been interesting to see just regular badugi...

This is definitely a story you need to be reading between the lines on. Interesting the corruption finally coming out on the EPT. PokerStars' events company is quite the racket.

Duthie said he sold mostly out of it 5 years ago, this comes as no surprise. The person they appointed is very interesting, especially in the wake of the Thomas Kremser scandal.

I haven't played the EPT in a couple years, mostly because the level of service dropped dramatically, and the people involved are so greedy. The guys involved in running the live events are no better than the harrahs guys. :shudder:

I wouldn't assume this is the real John Duthie, he had someone impersonating him on facebook around 2008 quite convincingly.

Does sound like him though.

Anything I have read/seen regarding John Duthie has always shown him to be a very good bloke, good luck to him.
