Lots of haters, but this could be pretty watchable. Depends entirely on the writing. It certainly won't be easy to pull it off well.

Not a huge fan of the "get naked and ruin the guy's job interview" type of cringe humor though.

I'll give it a chance... It actually looks decent. Hope the characters are portrayed well and are interesting. I wish more people would take risks making these types of shows for poker. We NEED this type of stuff happening and being produced. Get all the Silicon Valley nerdos and their GF's playing and gambling it up. If the show brings 100(who knows the number) people (USA players) that otherwise wouldn't have made a deposit online, I think it has done a good job.

Has potential. Just need to keep it realistic, no James Bond style hands

looking forward to it. Trailers are OK. Humor seems a bit off.

looks waaaay better than I expected. Still not very good, though, but gonna give it a shot.

Also, anyone who is the actress playing female lead? I'm pretty sure I know her from somewhere.

edit: found her name, it's Samantha Jayne and apparently she hasn't played in anything I've seen, weird, must look very similar to some other actress.

Looks decent to me. Not blown away by it but definitely think it has potential. Hopefully gets picked up because a show with this premise could definitely inspire new people to try out online poker.

And what kind of insider experience do you have to be able to make such a statement

a format similar to big bang would probably have half a chance with the sheer number of poker "understands" out there and plenty of online, live, and actual poker savvy actors to make it okay, especially if you play off how live online players think the other side sucks. Have intertwine more real life than poker tho. The dichotomy is the key. Make the players same ability to play the game successfully the same reason they can't tie their own shoelaces.

Ryan said he needs to sell the show and i doubt he and his company is investing tons of money to produce a full season. so yes, i'm pretty sure only the pilot is filmed by now.

and obviously the number of produced pilots is (far) bigger than the number of aired tv shows, is not only logic from a mathematical pov, but also from a business aspect

my statement about "chance are good no one will ever see the pilot" was btw made before poker central picked up the pilot. anyway, i somehow doubt, that they have the budget to produce a full season ... but like i said, fingers crossed, b/c i would watch (if it's available in Europe)

A sitcom about poker players sounds like a terrible idea to be honest and something that would be incredibly difficult to do well. I like the people behind this and I enjoyed Bet Raise Fold, but they would have to be insanely talented to make the concept work imo.

..I know that I started this thread to help promote this sitcom..but I really wish someone would make a movie on the "Ship it Holla Balla" book..out of all the poker stories out there I feel like this book has the best chance of appealing to both poker and mainstream audiences..besides it being super entertaining it's also based off of true experiences...could be pokers version of the movie "21"..

the 'poker version of 21' will be filmed, but sadly it's not about Ship it Holla Balla

The pilot is made really well, i remember when Ryan took over the stars mini doco's writing a comment somewhere that i didn't really care for the others but the new ones had been made immensely well.

He clearly has a skill that's been underutilized within Poker, which is probably why Bet raise fold looked so great.

The dialogue that I came up w/ is straight out of NVG itself, I read that stuff on here all of the time and often enough they make me laugh but they are repetitious and I decided to tweak the readers w/ some of the 'mom's basement', 'ran bad', 'bum hunt in the lobby', 'it's not gambling', etc. There's simply not enough material to even fill a single season unless they expand the story. Try and write something funnier that's poker related. It's tough to do bec there isn't anything funny about an actual poker game. Some things that players consider funny happen but the general viewer probably can't relate. There are colorful characters and some very successful players, certainly. Some great personal stories like Doyle, Ungar, the nosebleed players, good anecdotes, but not really funny unless you understand the entire game, both playing and away from the table.

Those clips appear to be gone. I posted hastily bec I should've acknowledged that the production values were pretty good but, come on, I just can't see a poker sitcom actually being funny. A drama like Rounders, yes. I'd like to see a Rounders 2. I used to play in games w/ Koppelman (a pretty solid Stud Hi player, btw) in the NYC clubs. He knew what he was talking about and if he still does I hope he does it again.

The filming looks the part (good) and the acting seemed good enough too, but the dialogue wasn't snappy or interesting enough and it was delivered a bit slowly. I don't think it would interest enough people as-is (based on the 3 clips on the site).

I think there's a lot of good there though so hopefully something becomes of it.
