I would watch that.

I have seen this movie recently and I'd say this is a pretty accurate comparison.

I bet this will turn out just as successful as Chan's poker energy drink.

Because that's not how tv show production works, you don't make a ****ty pilot with awful actors and awful writers and then say "well just see if you sort of like the idea, buy the rights and we'll rewrite it" everything is done based on the script, then a pilot is commisioned.

There's no 'test run pilots'.

The "acting" was so bad it reminded me of the TV pilot someone posted here about poker life in Thailand. Can't remember the name/find the link. Same level of script/acting, poker scenes and swimsuit scenes, but you could excuse the Thai girls since English wasn't their native language. Plus they were Thai girls.

Still, there was something about that way one of the girls said "bag of dicks" that I found interesting.

As if, perhaps, she had actually seen a bag of dicks?

Oh dear...
~ 20 eps means he's actually targeting network tv since they are pretty much the only ones doing the traditional 22 episode format still. Pretty delusional imo, esp. given how unwatchable this 5 minutes is.

I agree with just about every single comment and complaint itt.

For years people have complained about only seeing the same twenty "Celebrity Pros" on TV (Negreanu, Laak, Esfandiari, Hellmuth, etc). This video is a perfect example of why we don't see more unknowns. Poker TV is TV first, poker second. Granted, these players weren't exactly supported with decent writing or editing, but not one of them has an ounce of TV charisma.

One other thing tilted me and I'm probably the only one who cares. The producers are trying to create broad poker characters like "The Genius" and "The Bully" and, while cliche, there's nothing wrong with that. But they do a godawful job of actually defining them. I couldn't tell you who was who. And my favorite character-fail is when they introduce The Bully by having everyone else throw him in a pool. So The Bully is the guy who gets bullied by everyone else?

Whether or not this particular show fails or succeeds isn't really my concern.

I would just much rather see the poker community come together and offer more positive feedback, even if they think the idea is beyond saving.

Poker on TV has been successful and had an impact, even if that gets overestimated. New pros aren't as recognized as the old pros. When I get asked "Have you met...." it is nearly always Daniel, Phil H., Phil I. or Mike M. that they want to know about. The characters of the game.

That is why I applaud an effort by Johnny and Doyle (!?! if he was even complicit...that is a whole other story I guess), no matter how cheesy or awkward it may be.

Maybe, just maybe there is something to the equation of "Old Pros + Reality TV + competition" that might make for viewable tv, even if it isn't this particular show.

FYP

I like seeing new players on tv, but the viewing public likes to feel like they know a character, they want to be able to wait and see for the next Poker Brat blow up, or count how many times Matusow gets bleeped. They need to feel some sort of connection to the player.

If its a comedy it may have potential. Can't beleive anyone could watch that back in the editing room and take it serious.

Unfortunately the best editor in the world can't save awful acting and a terrible script.

As someone in the business, I welcome any legitimate effort that brings new production work to Vegas and it is a bonus when it promotes poker. Can't get behind this at the moment, as this attempt to "sizzle" was so off the charts bad.
