According to Entertainment Weekly, actor Ryan Reynolds is starring in a new film involving poker, called Mississippi Grind, that will likely hit U.S. theaters sometime this year.

I really hope they consulted the industry before making this movie. After lucky you the only poker movie I watched was BRF only cause it was done docu style

Not getting my hopes up...but would be a pleasant surprise if they had poker players in mind as an audience- not a bunch of a fish

the article says that Jake Gyllenhaal was supposed to have the lead role which gives credence to the film being decent; his selection of past projects to be involved with are mostly good.

Are these types of movies considered taboo/racy in the US? Like movies about gays, non-whites (except for funny black people), and other anti-christian stuff? Or is poker okay because people can make money off of it?

Na gambling movies aren't taboo. Here in America it is okay to show a scene full of decrepit dead bodies that were gruesomely mutilated post-mortem but you have to make sure that you censor the nipples because kids might be watching.

ben Mendelsohn's in it which has given me some hope it could be decent having seen him in animal kingdom and starred up

yeah some of them do look a bit annoying. Looks like they want to be on tv more than they want to be winners at poker.

I like the idea of the show, it would be good if they had someone like Galfond as mentor

Ana Boden and Ryan Fleck of Half Nelson fame are behind it + Ben Mendelsohn is in it. The odds of this being good are very high IMO. Really excited to see it.
