I dunno I have this feeling you are trying too hard on the art and not enjoying yourself enough. Perhaps you could try to relax a little? I enjoy when there is a feeling of "fluentnes" that I just dont see on the current state of your art.

fwiw I don't believe +EV's art is better, I believe it is too simple and straightforward but meh, its a formula that works.

Hope you keep on going and have success.
I appreciate the feedback. Maybe it's a matter of taste, but I was going for something more visually interesting and unique. There's nothing wrong with +EV's approach (like you said, it's a formula that works), but I wanted something different than four frames that look almost exactly the same, such as:

If you look at my original, and you look at the one above, I wanted to do something more like my original. Not sure what about it looks like I'm not enjoying myself. It definitely would be a lot faster to do something like the above example, but I wouldn't enjoy doing that. I guess it's not for you, but I do appreciate your opinion.

it's good stuff man, and i'd absolutely keep doing the dynamic art. if these are any indication and you want to work at it, you have the potential to make the best poker webcomic hands down. plusEV i guess holds that title now largely by default but obviously the art is pretty bland and the content is pretty groan-worthy imo. i can't remember if it ever used to be better, but at some point i realized 90% of plusEV comics being produced were "POKER ANALOGY APPLIED TO REAL LIFE, LOL" and in increasingly forced ways. seriously, browse the comic and count how many of them are just that. not saying you can't use that humor sometimes, but it's basically a one-joke comic. your work is refreshing, both in art and content

Thanks very much. I'll keep at. Comments like yours and others help me to know that it's worthwhile to continue.

just for the record I intended by no means tu suggest that you should try to approach your style to +EV's

I just think that despite the things in the art of +EV that I dont like it has that fluent feeling that I was talking about.

it might just be a matter of taste, I read a lot of webcomics and this discussion made me think about the order I display them on the folder of my browser, the ones I like the most are on top and they dont necessarily have the best art, just the best confluence between art and content. (and also regular updates, I dont care if they update 7 days a week or 1 a month but they have to keep up with the set they defined themselves)

I'm sure you have checked it out already but if you havent I would strongly recommend the works of Scott McCloud on comics in general and webcomics in particular. here is a linky

just do whatever you enjoy.

its weird, but I read the comics and was like: "meh, not bad, not good enough for me to come back".
Then I saw who is the author and immediatly changed my attitude.

huh

Thanks for the comments and the link. You know about the subject more than I do, and I'm glad you're taking the time to share your insight. I am just now trying to develop my style, and you'll probably see it change over time -- hopefully for the better. This dialog with you and others will help, so please keep posting. I do want to know what you think.

That's a great compliment, and I'll try to make the comic live up to what you think of my prior work.

Pretty good, but you could've triple-range merged Annie's dialogue in the first three panels to something like "My first guest is David “Chino” Rheem. Chino recently won the first Epic Poker League Main Event, poker's most prestigious tournament."

50 words down to 21.

Then you're dropping reference to the first "joke" which is the name, "Awesome Poker Show" (take off on "Epic Poker League" for those who missed it). I know it's in the logo, but I wanted her to say it. You also don't have her saying her name, which I think wouldn't be wise since it is a drawing and not a photo. Plus, I get paid by the word.

Nice work Ep! Very funny!

A few minor suggestions for total awesomeness:

1. I would reformat your website into a Wordpress/Tumblr style site. (plenty of really cool free templates). It presently looks a little dated and homemade. Also, it will allow you to add content "blog-style" so visitors can easily see any new non-comic strip stuff you decide to post (like your latest 2+2 chops) and make your actual "written" blog easier to read.

Wordpress type sites are also well integrated with google search and all the popular social media sites.

2. Your strips are awesome but you need to come up with something at least once a week and stay up on current events. Maybe promise a new strip every Sunday and other "one panellers" or photo chops throughout the week. Get dem people comin back!

Have fun and keep up the great work!

Thanks, jh. Good suggestions. I plan on refining the website at some point. I'll try to post more often. I have thought of some one panel comics. Maybe it doesn't hurt to mix things up a bit.

Liked the first two comics. As others have said, the webpage needs a makeover but your overall concept seems good to me. Checked out +EV for comparison but I like your humor better.
