They really don't need to be remaking this movie. I can pretty much guarantee this will be worse than the original. What's next? Are they going to remake The Deer Hunter with Justin Timberlake Jake Gyllanhall and Ryan Reynolds? If they want to remake Total Recall or Judge Dredd that's fine, but leave the classics alone.

Never understand all the hate on remakes. Sure, they often suck. But one always has the ability to not watch something.

Really strong supporting cast in this. Wahlberg can go either way.

For me, there was an era that goes from like the late 60's to the early 80's where there were a lot of really good movies made. There was a depth to them that you really don't see at all anymore. I think it's probably a function of really talented guys being able to make the movies they wanted to make without a bunch of interference from Hollywood corporate types just looking to squeeze out as much money as possible. Everything is so superficial and watered down now. To me, it's like the difference between a really good HBO series and whatever garbage they decide to put on ABC on a Wednesday night.

I guess I just don't really want such a direct example of how much worse the movies of today are. Watching The Mechanic with Jason Statham and comparing it to the Mechanic with Charles Bronson is super depressing to me. And the icing on the cake is knowing that a whole bunch of people watched the Jason Statham version when they've never seen the Charles Bronson version and are probably never going to see it.

Every time I'm scrolling through the guide on the TV and see Dawn of the Dead on, I have to check it out and see if it's the 1978 one or the 2004 one. The 78 version used to be on every once in a while. Now it's exclusively the 2004 one. It's been at least 5 years since I've seen the original on TV. ****ing infuriating.

Yeah I get that that bothers you, but I think if the remake didn't exist the programming would inevitably be replaced by some other movie instead. I don't think there is a ton of "lets play movie X in this time slot... oh there's a newer one? Ok use that instead" going on, even though it can seem that way.

I also think that today there are all kinds of movies being made all over the world, more than in any other time period. Mainstream hollywood might not line up, but there are plenty of options out there - including old movies!

When they remake "The Gambler", I think we're starting to skirt uncomfortably close to "The Godfather" starring Vin Diesel as Vito Corleone and Justin Beiber as Michael.

All good movies need re-made every 20 years to keep up with current production values, and most viewers have not seen the original or do not remember what it was about.

To give the cliffs notes version, the original was a deep and nuanced examination of the psychology of a gambling addict. This one is going to be equal parts OMG, what a degen!, highroller lifestyle porn, and action sequences.

FWIW, The original staring James Caan is available on Amazon Prime and Netflix.

The reason why movies are remade is to allow Hollywood to regurgitate a script/plotline, and make money.

In the remake it'll probably be a soft 18! Hollywood, man.

But seriously, it looks like they have the same exact hand of BJ in the trailer if you look close. Curious how the ending will be vs. the original.

Overall agree w/ Adebisi but you can't stop progress.
