New level of deception. Rungood series forces top 10 to buy a cruise. New level of deception. Rungood series forces top 10 to buy a cruise.

I'm still in shock they can get away with this.

The top 10 players in the rungood main event series held this weekend are forced to buy a rungood cruise at $1500 each.

This money is directly removed from the prizepool.

The tourney advertised as $500+60, comes out to $452+108 after the cruise money is taken from the prizepool.

Organizers are claiming this was in their advertising and on the structure sheet, but this whole process of forcing the top 10 players to buy something they probably don't want, and then deducting that amount directly from the prizepool seems shady at best.

This seems like a pretty bad deal for the players, and would certainly almost prevent me from playing in this tournament.

But this does seem pretty clearly stated on the front page of their website. So I don't think "deception" is really a fair description of what's wrong here.

What's the cruise about?

Not deception other than maybe hoping people will assume standard payouts and not pay attention. They seem to be treating the events as a type of satellite to the cruise.

Are the players complaining? Maybe they knew what they were getting into and were willing to take a hit on the cash payout so they can go on the cruise. I wouldn't play in it but if those who did are cool with it, what's the issue?

Not that it justifies this or anything, but the WPT removes $15k from first place for the Tournament of Champion buyin. It seems most people think it's a freeroll. I've heard of money being removed from the prizepool to buy the winner a watch or car...that's so ridiculous.

Some more info. The top 10 are forced to basically buy a $1500 cruise for 2 people. Despite the fact that they may not be able to go on those dates, or have someone to bring with them.

The advertising is clear on the $15,000 deduction from the prizepool for cruises, but in my experience very few actually read the ads or structure sheets thoroughly to see what's taken out of the prizepool.

The cruise won does not include the rungood tournament buyin on the actual cruise, it just covers the cruise fee.

Rungood finally responded on Twitter that they will review this type of deduction in the future, and I commended them for that.

doublejoker, maybe you could design a poll and see what percentage of players entering tournaments read the rules, structure and prizes.

Yesterday I found fault with rungood poker tour deducting $15000 from the prizepool to pay the top 10 spots a $1500 cruise each. I didn't think it was fair to make each if the top 10 spots pay for a 2 person cruise that they may or may not want. Rungood and supporters like David Baker came back with the argument that its a fun cruise and those that cant make it are assisted in selling their cruises. That's fine if exactly $1500 is taken from each of the top 10 spots and replaced with a cruuse. That way everyone who doesnt want the cruise can be made whole.

However,* the $15,000 was deducted PRIOR to prizepool calculations. In fact, some players paid a nice premium for their cruise, some got theirs at a discount, and others simply had money taken from their winnings to pay for the top 10 cruise winners.

If any of the top 3 cant make the cruise, they take a nice hit trying to dispose of it. If 4-10 cant make the cruise, they actually make a profit by selling it and not going.

11-30 actually paid towards others cruises out of their winnings.

The fairest way to do this would be to use the middle column and deduct exactly 1500 from each of the first 10 spots.* That way anyone who can't make the cruise is made exactly whole, and others who don't make the top 10 are not paying for cruise winners.*

Here's a breakdown. Numbers are approximate.

Winnings paid.** Actual winnings.*** Cruise cost

This is a seriously dumb thread and OP doesn't even respond to questions and comments. It seems more like a pointless blog post so he can whine about something he disagrees with.

Pro rating the amount deducted from each cashing position based on the regular payout percentage formula, for the same $1500 cruise, is clearly wrong so here's a breakdown of next year's payouts with Cabin Types. Numbers are approximate.

Besides having to pay for someone to go on a cruise.... who the **** wants to go on a cruise? It's like the type of vacation only an obese person who gave up on living life would appreciate. Lamest way to travel lol.

I used to bartend on a cruise ship and there are plenty of fit people who go on ships. They have gyms, pools, and we had a running track around the deck, as well. Ships don't just stay at sea. They pull into various ports where people hike, explore, and engage in whatever activities they want. I don't think you have any idea what you're talking about. Even if it was just eating and sitting around, that's how some people, including very fit people, like to relax.

Is there any way that they can advertise that 15K from the prize pool is being used to pay for cruise packages in a way that you would not consider deceptive?

As if he didn't already get enough opinions from his Facebook post about the same subject. In fact, the update was a copy-and-paste of the post above.

I feel deceived into believing that there might actually have been some manner of deception that got discussed in a thread about a new level of deception.

That said...I find it hilarious that chainsaw wants to accuse a tournament promoter of deception because some idiot does not read the information FOR the tournament they are entering.
