Did anyone ever sit at a table with Negreanu and start to emulate his nasal voice and eye tics?

That would shed some light on how objectively acceptable that kind of behavior is at a table imo.

Good thread DN. Hadn't seen Phil G's blog when he wrote it but great read, think it was spot on. Thanks for everything you do for poker, Daniel.

In my experience this isnt the way it works mason, the casinos generally dont hire props for small games, the games where the rake is enormously high. Props are nearly always for the bigger games in the room and they are hired because that player pool is small and many players wont start short. The props make it so the room doesnt lose its big games.

Historically it has been thought that having big games is important for the health of a room. It really doesnt help the drop. In CA. we drop as much in a 2-5 game as we do in a 5-10 game. Because of this The Hustler casino has basically decided to not spread games bigger than 5-5 (or any PLO). Their mgmt believes it breaks their players with no increase in rake. It also allowed them to stop hiring props.

The rake at Commerce is obscene. Even worse is the rake at Playground Poker Club in Montreal, $15! IMO this is unsustainable. Rake is generally too high everywhere except the illegal backroom games that are usually better run than casino games. I've basically given up playing cash games, now I just grind tournaments online, and when they get too expensive I'll stop them. Online cash game rake is too high too but sites like PokerStars have a huge infrastructure to pay for so there is no easy answer.

How about getting poker rooms out of casinos? I remember when there were (legal) poker rooms in the back of pubs or attached to hotels etc. The rake was lower and the atmosphere was better too. Casinos are too greedy to manage poker properly.

This is basically what's going on in Portland, OR (or was, been a couple years since I've been there)

Just realised in the last week that 2 casinos who used to run poker tournaments and cashgames here in Galway have stopped them completely. Possibly the 3rd one has too now.

Lots of gold especially in the first few pages of this thread. It's pretty clear what DN really thinks of poker regs trying to grind out a living online.

Only people making real money from poker are the casinos and sites. An elephant called rake. But then that's sacred.
