Yes they are different instances this year but the hotel didn't give a **** about people being ripped off last year nor relatively did stars under decent management. What would make you think things would be different this year??

i'm no expert, but since you noticed it straight away (and you got virus warnings) it seems that this attack was very unprofessional. since you say, you're not that known, so it would make sense, that someone tried to mass infect dozens of PCs.

like i said i'm no expert, but if you don't protect your pc, they don't even need physical access to infect it via wifi. this was a hitech attack and targeting business people an politicians, but i guess s similar attack can happen anywhere

most LV casinos don't have cameras in hotel corridors and the security is a joke. i'm 100% sure some ppl are aware of it and infected laptops from known pros. just because someone didn't notice and started a nvg thread doesn't mean it didn't happen. so again ... everyone who thinks this is a problem that only occurs in Barcelona or at the EPT is just naive

afaik the Jeans connection was a rumour, but case is ongoing and it seems danish law prevents that 'dirty laundry' is made public, so it could be true or just wild speculation made up in nvg

Just wanted to add my experience from this year.

Stayed at the arts everything was going fine for the first coupe days then one night picked up some $ that was owed to me and stashed it in my bad in the room inside my passport zipped up in an inside pocket of my bag with a bunch of clothes on top covering it. Went for breakfast the following morning and asked for my room to be cleaned. When I got back I noticed my bag was open and money (500) had been stolen.

I went to the front desk and spoke with the manager on duty who said no one has ever had anything stolen from their room in the history of this hotel and said that wither I lost it playing poker or my gf took it.

When I said no housekeeping stole it she told me that I am a liar. At first poker stars took the hotels side saying they would not move me hotels then finally when I followed up saying that was unacceptable they finally moved me.

Avoid at all costs.

In Finnish poker forums there's a player who have reported similar case this year.

Arts is clearly compromised by thiefs and hotel management is either ignorant or part of the scam coup. PokerStars is partially responsible for these events by continuing their co-operation with them at expense of players safety.

I agree with all of this.

The hotel has had enough issues and enough examples of covering up/minimizing the issues that some of their management is likely in on the scam. If Stars wanted to they could break their contract with the hotel due to them failing to supply adequate security but Stars doesn't want to give up Barcelona and it's my understanding that there aren't other realistic options for them to hold it elsewhere.

This has been going on for years, surprised nobody ever used a nanny cam to expose these crimes - they are very inexpensive.

Safe in that particular room was broken. Didn't have very much cash on me and I thought it was well hidden.

The fact that it was stolen the first cleaning after I got it makes me think that the cleaning staff probably went through my bags every day looking for things to steal. And if that was done to me it was probably done to many other people. It's a massive invasion of privacy and downright creepy.

Also the way the hotel manager responded makes me think that she may have been complicit. Wouldn't be surprised if it was a hotel wide scam.

i stayed in a airbnb for 1/5th the cost of the arts during the series. Left my new macbook in a unlocked cupboard in my room and had nothing stolen. Heard enough dodgy things about barcelona to not stay in any hotels there. Maybe try out a airbnb next time was my first time using it but was a good experience.

These cases are obviously by NO means the players' faults, but you guys should seriously consider buying a cheap hidden cam or just use your laptop's camera. You can get hidden camera for like $40 (or less?) and it works as a lifetime hotel theft insurance.

Where's best place to buy hidden cam? And agree just absurd how untrustworthy the hotel is overall, would generally recommend to not leave cash or valuables in room, including Airbnb and similar to be safe

There are a ton of them out there but I prefer the USB one that is very unlikely to be spotted or stolen.

let's get something positive out of this thread though ... this is a common situation for a lot of travelling pros ... hotels just don't feel totally secure and bringing all your valuables with you 24/7 isn't an ideal solution ... is there a simple camera setup that would be recommended or an internet security outfit (like Greenplastic used to be) that is advisable for poker pros? ... even a portable/trackable safe might be solid for cash in the room?
