If I was a gang hardcore enough to intimidate a billion pound company I think I would just want a few million direct from them rather than sneaking about trying to install Trojans onto users pc's to then try and cheat them out of thousands.

Having said that IF there has been something going on then there's a reasonable chance a PS employee may be involved at some level, people like to come up with all sorts of theories when a lot of times its the more mundane obvious one that is the right one.

Jeans will report back when he has more info. PokerStars will also report back for sure, but as a big company it takes time, a lot of time especially with these special cases, which they haven't dealt with.

* I have been on a package to Macau last year. I also played a high rollers on that trip. I usually grind 5/10 3/6 NL HE 6M, sometimes taking shots at higher stakes. I often start tables. I used to crush the others while starting tables, but past 1 year, I am the one who has been crushed.

* I know to keep my hotel room key separate. I had many times need to change the key.

* No suspicious calls to the room. But I was not there much anyways.

* I did at some time have system repair happen often. I do not remember, whether it happened before or after the Macau trip. A format solved that problem.

* I don't think I was scammed or anything. But I would still like my laptop checked. I am waiting for Jeans report, with what happened with the computer(s).
- Was the bios infeceted as well?
- How to spot bios infection?
- Is my format enough?
- If AV is unable to spot and the Stars computer expert did not spot anything, then how will I know who can spot things like that?
- Should I buy a new laptop?

Seeing stakes you play new one shouldn't be financially too much of a hassle so it could be good idea just for piece of mind. Mere DOUBT that there could be something wrong could cost you more than new laptop(and make sure to crypt the hard drive and never leave it while on without you being around if you buy new one).

New computer is most reliable way of being sure you have malware free computer(as sick as it might not sound not 100% sure however! But at least in that rare case where your brand new laptop is already infected the malware isn't one specifically aimed against poker player).

If i was playing stakes like that, i would have a laptop with only pokersites and poker tracking software on it. Browsing the internet and stuff can be done on a different computer.

I had stayed at that Hotel in 2011 EPT Barcelona and was back in 2013 for a local event few months ago. Knowing the environment ( Hotel, Tourney Hall etc ) makes the story more horrifying to me.

laptops are pretty cheap these days, compared to the risk of not simply replacing his laptop with a new one dedicated to ONLY his poker play.

I don't know if these reviews were from poker players but if you look at the first couple of pages of Trip Advisor comments there are more than a few complaints of security issues and being told, "the cameras weren't working".

Its rather weird how we have had no official response as yet and since Jeans have not posted anything here then much likely he knows not very much more than he did before.

So I was just enjoying this day, decided to log on stars and grind some tourneys. Now to the best part as soon as I manage to click on log in, I get a huge ass ad to blast up in my face... And wait what?



I think its for your best interest NSplayers not to enjoy the "early bird" deal or if you do, make sure you leave your Laptop's at home for this trip and enjoy some live action.

Stars most likely wants this to just go away. Any statement in the near future will probably be brief and include the overused statement of late "ongoing investigation".

Also, it wouldn't surprise me if the affected players were "asked" to sign an NDA by Stars. I would strongly recommend not doing so if you've been asked to but haven't yet or if you haven't yet been asked to.

they totally depend on the help from the hotel staff and police ... i guess most off nvg folks can't accept that the world outside poker is much much bigger and PS is just one company out of many. They don't have special powers, rights or whatever.

- do you really think, that the hotel management cares that much? PS needs the arts more than the arts needs PS!

- do you really think, that spanish police can invest many working hours and officers, because jeans is a known highstakes pro? Hell no, they have other cases to solve and i'm pretty sure it will take a few more weeks ... if they can do anything at all.


I guess most off you watched too much TV and really believe that a police officer tries to solve every case, investigates 24/7 and has nothing other to do, because the 'potential EPT Laptop Scam' just happened now.


Another big joke is, that a lot of ppl itt blaming PS ... this is what's wrong with the poker community! Instead of looking for a solution, you're looking for a scapegoat and hoping for some kind of 'deus ex machina'.

Sure PS can warn their players, but the safety of your personal belongings is the business of the hotel and yourself! PokerStars is just booking the rooms, the best thing they can do is to 'put pressure' on the management. I don't say PS did everything the could do (on the other hand most of us don't know, what they did), but blaming them for the problems is just wrong.

Let's assume, that you're visiting a city to play an ept event, but you stay in a 'non-ps' hotel. your laptop is stolen ... who do you blame now? PS (again), the travel agency ... the hotel? what if you just on a trip w/o any poker events ... who do blame now?


and @ all the 'when is jeans updating' Qs ... Jens is a smart guy and he will post, when he has new information and he can post them w/o constrain the investigation (if there is a investigation at all)
