PS - none of this is to suggest that C. Fiji and his work are anything but true assets to the poker community, it is pretty tacky and stupid for JN to have threatened suit.
There is no middle ground in this matter- only right and wrong.

Your last sentence defines the Hero and the Villain in this story.

That's a logical fallacy. Nobody wants to be scammed. Lots of people want to play online poker. Lots of people want illegal firearms or discounted cigarettes, and lots of people want to smoke weed. The point is that the Kahnawake tribe has repeatedly given the US (and Canadian) government the middle finger, and by hosting online gambling sites, they're doing it yet again. The kind of upstanding citizens you wish would run online gambling sites aren't willing to do that.

He may not be a hero, but he's certainly only a minor league villain when compared the governments and agencies he's willing to stand up to. If it weren't for the Joe Nortons of the world, you wouldn't even be able to play online poker.

You guys really are an unbelievable bunch of whiners. You want to engage in an activity deemed illegal by many of the world's governments (namely, the US government) and, when you realize one of the only guys willing to spread the game might be a criminal with underworld ties, you get all bent out of shape. Ergo, you all are retards. As long as I keep on winning, I'll take a game at a Kahnawake poker room over no game at all any day.

In short, it's all George Bush's fault, not Joe Norton's.
Lets say you come to Chicago and want to play a little poker and I know of an underground game... I also know the game uses marked cards occassionally but hey its notmy job to tell you that... I take you there they rape you for all your dough using marked cards, you get upset, I call you a whiny little ***** and tell you that you should have known better. I thne tell you its not my fault for taking you to thegame its Mayor Daleys fault then I laugh at you and call you a whiny little ***** again. you want some more sucker? makes sense to me

Understanding that you don't believe that online gaming is or would be safe anywhere unless regulated by the US or your own country, my question is this:

Some sites are licensed and "regulated" by the KGC and have their servers there. Other sites, like Poker Stars are licensed and regulated in The Isle of Man, yet when you check your server connections on Poker Stars in the lobby under Help and Network Status, it shows that the servers are through MIT, Mohawk something, and that they are in Kahnawake, Canada. It also shows other server locations such as the University of California, University of Melbourne, University of Cambridge and Harvard.

What does this mean and what is the difference if any, is there between being licensed somewhere, Isle of Man or Alderney and where the servers are?

I also noticed that while Poker Stars is on the Kahnawake permit holder list and according to the KGC site they are required, as a permit holder, to have to KGC logo on their site, they do not. Seems a bit odd.

Anyway, if anyone can shed any light on this, I would be interested.

They used to be licensed by KCG. They left, and are now licensed by a legit regulating body.

I understand that they are now licensed by The Isle of Man. My question is why does the MIT(Mohawk/Kahnawake) server show up under the Help, Network status tabs of the Poker Stars Lobby and why does the KGC still list them as a permit holder?

Yeah, it's definitely a partisan political issue. It has nothing whatsoever to do with taxes.

Because, uh, the republicans are really the only one who are--

Never mind.

The Democrats control the House & Senate. They could have blocked it if they choose to. I guess they hate us too.

They didn't control them when the UIGEA was passed.

I stand corrected. It passed in Sept 2006- 2 months before the election.

The democrats do control the house and senate now and have since that election. So far every attempt to overturn or exclude poker from UIEGA have failed so i guess the democrats are not free from blame either. The problem is nothing like tihs ever gets done in an election year... once the election is behind us look for some movement.

It wouldn't happen to be their lack of transparency that you "kind of admire?"

Really?

My understanding is that in order to be hosted on the MIT servers or w/e, sites must be licensed by the KGC. So this leads me to believe that PS is still in fact licensed by the KGC, despite now also being licensed by the Isle of Man.

Can anyone clarify the situation?

In the Kahnawake thread a couple posters seem to be under the impression that PS is now using Manx servers...
