opening a bank account in the philippines is easy, you can't open a savings account though if it's in peso (our currency) but you can easily open a checking account or dollar savings account. (you just need two ID's and a picture)

you can live here well for about $1000/month. exchange rate is 43 peso to 1 dollar,

you can buy a decent condo for about $40,000 here in manila,

- i used to work in a bank, im here in the PH

Guys,
I am willing to relocate anywhere in the world and am looking for a group of people to do so. I've been thinking Canada or somewhere warm, since i live in Canada that would be the easiest choice but i'm down for whatever. If anyone is in the same position or needs an extra person to join their crew, PM me to discuss further. Cheers

Jesus. How bandwidth intensive can online poker be?

I never play more than 8 tables, but I don't want to spend a few k to relocate to Costa Rica and then have an unstable/laggy internet connection.

Can anyone from Costa Rica confirm or deny about the internet connection?

From what I have heard it is very slow (broadband is more like dial-up in the US) but they have different tiers where you can spend up to $100-$200/mo for the fastest. What is much more worrisome is that they have periodic outages, and in the rainy season (approaching) there are power outages that shut everything down, including the cell towers (i.e. backup air card won't help.) It would be nice if someone who has played full time there can comment on how often the internet and power outages occur. If I get kicked off once a month and can't even email stars to unregistered for the tourneys that haven't started yet, it's going to be a dealbreaker for me.

My brother adam bilzerian did this and he actually wrote a book about it... If you are seriously considering it, you might wanna check that out or talk to him, its a pretty serious step.

Quick question for those who plan to move to Canada.

Even if you manage to get a work visa through a semi-fake company or business venture, it won't be before some time, during which you will just be a "visitor" for up to 6 months.

Now, if you play for a living you'll have to pay taxes to Canada. If you declare as a pro, you're admitting that you were working there illegally while on a visitor stay.
If you declare winnings as a casual gambler, you won't be able to deduct your losses and that's a disaster for a pro player.

Anyone see a way around this?

-Do the gambling laws in Canada allow you to deduct losses even as a non-pro?

-Is Canada like the US in the sense that they don't care whether you've been working illegally as long as you pay your taxes?

-Are the tax laws related to online gambling muddy enough that you perhaps don't have to pay taxes?

When the authorities catch up with you simply tell them your human rights and that you have nowhere to go and you will be given a 4-5 bedroom house, a mobile phone and a car.

Also if your on a downswing you can top up your bankroll by being given work from the job centre as you will be favoured over UK job aplicants if you agree to a slightly lower hourly rate.

What you waiting for.....

I do lack your courage....or maybe it's your insanity......or maybe I'm just smarter. GL in CR though......hopefully you don't open up the hot chicks thread in OOT and lose your internet due to all the .jpegs.

No reason to be making these big decisions after one week when no one has any idea what's going on. You should all have adequate backup money in case of emergencies that should give you the time to plan something out and see what happens in the coming weeks. If you don't.......well time to give up living off of rakeback and admit failure.

This +1, however a) should you really care any longer about a country that isn't about the bs it claims? (freedom only for whom we choose) and b) Canada won't leave you stateless. We would much rather have an American poker player, than an Egyptian Doctor (for example, this could work with ANY middle eastern country as well as many Euro countries). The Egyptian Dr. has to be taught the language, and their great doctorate is about the equivalent of a gr 8. education in Canada so they also have to have their education upgraded to at least g 12 equivalent. This is needlessly expensive and complicated just to have mostly useless citizens added to our population.

Americans are generally ignorant (sorry not gonna sugarcoat it for anyone), but we don't care how much of our history you can memorize - You speak English, your education is equivalent to an equal education here, and all we ask is you leave your guns at the border.

I'm sorry, but when your far left wing, first African-American president is going to start crushing your freedoms (or at least side with the people who are) what chance do any of you really have left???

Come North my brothers, we need more semi-employed people who arent a drain on the system!!! Maybe if enough of you emigrate, your stupid gov't will get its head on straight

Canada obviously endorses immigration because it's +EV so I don't know what drain on the system you're talking about.

Also, calling Obama far left wing is quite a stretch.

I'm going to Thailand tomorrow. I have been there on and off for years, I have a very good friend there whom I am going to open up a joint bank account with, and I already have a utility bill. Stars told me that it is very likely that as soon as I get there, if Ic an provide proof that I am tehre they will let me play while waiting on documents

What about for someone who hates clubs? Are there cocktail lounges and other places to meet these girls that may or not be hot with big boobs?

Some questions guys:

What countries do you think would be the easiest to set up necessary documents? I will be in Thailand tomorrow, and i know you can pay to get documents done there illegally, but they are valid documents. I kind of want to do this legally though. I think I have the required documents for thailand already...not sure. But if it falls through there, what countries do you think are the easiest to get back online? I am not worried about actually having to live there, just getting back online. Going to read thru this post now, but what places are people thinking to go to? I am pretty much open to anywhere that is not cold/boring...i.e def not canada.

Also if you guys are still looking for places let me say Panama.
Significantly better internet (more reliable, faster) then teh usa. us citizens have essentially the same rights as panamanians. YOu can rent, you can own, you can get a bank account. Hot women, great nightlife. Beaches, easily acces to weed (or coke if thats more your speed). Good local cash games even. To the people saying Costa Rica, while i think it is very nice there, it is also very played out. Panama isnt really cheap though for living expenses, especially if you wanta nice place. Maybe slightly cheaper then the us, but not by much. but you can get a live in maid/cook for like 300 a month
