FWIW I watch a ton of poker content on youtube (Boski, DePaulo, Ashley Sleeth, Brantzen Poker, SlowPoker, Game of Gold, etc) but I've never seen one of his shorts pop up as recommended

That's interesting. I've never signed into a YT account on my phone, and it's main feed mostly feeds me YouTube shorts of hands from a few users. I usually only see this while I have a few min to spare on my phone, so the algorithm must favor their content to casual hand viewers like me. I used to watch longform poker videos/vlogs, but only on my PC. I never see that stuff recommended to me on my phone.

If you want to see king of YT poker botting check out Jeff Gross podcast on YT
Every episode "has" 100k views with just few bot comments

100k views on podcasts is a lot for YT in general

first hand of this vlog he shoves his 8's on the river stating he's doing it to "get value". Now, I'm just a simple-minded PLO junkie and I don't play those fancy NL Hold Em games, but could someone explain to me what hands his opponent will have that he's getting value from with this river shove?

Watched the 3 first hands in the video above. Is this guy winning at poker? He is kinda like a Berkey light. He uses a lot of poker language and terms so someone with no clue probably thinks he is good, but when you break down his analysis it makes little sense and betrays that hes pretty bad, like in the 88 hand.

It seems to me that a lot of players dump money to him just so they can say they were on one of his videos . Throw in the sponsorship money that he's receiving and I doubt it even matters how well he plays.

I for one welcome his videos and substandard play. A lot of these newer vloggers posting on tik tok and YouTube shorts are great for the game, they're teaching a whole generation the wrong way to play poker.

Yea I completely agree. Mediocre/bad players with tons of followers is great for the game.

He has the same flawed thought process and is able to cover it up fairly well with buzz terms. "I'm going to bet this hand as a bluff just as I would with all my strong hands" and BOOM he is balanced in his ranges! It's as easy as knowing you need bluffs AND value!

Just had a look at his channel.

For someone with 1.06M subs, of his last 30 videos, 19 have 50k views and just one has 100k views. Of all his videos, his most views are 276k, 227k, 188k, 157k and 147k.

However, his Shorts* are raking in the views, the most popular being 87M and 83M, seven more above 10M and almost 100 more above 1M.

So kudos to him for understanding the algorithm and how to grow his subs, but personally I’m not a fan of his content or personality.

*YouTube added the ability to create short length vertical videos (maximum 60 seconds) in September 2020).

See, this is what doesn't match up for me. I just don't see ANY poker content getting interest to the point of 80+ MILLION views, which makes me question the legitimacy of those views. I understand that Youtube is pushing shorts content, I recently dabbled with it and my shorts would get more views than my long-form content. But I don't buy that there's enough people watching POKER related youtube shorts to bring ANY content creator 80-90 million views on a single video.

I doubt there is much going on here. They push shorts like crazy, and there is really no one making shorts like his for poker, so he is getting the first mover advantage. Next Gen Poker has similar stats, just on a smaller scale:

https://www.youtube.com/@NextGenPoker/videos

Their latest long form vids get like 8k views with 200k+ subs. A handful of their shorts have 10M+ views.

So YT is just pushing shorts with poker content to people who aren't interested in poker? I just don't see our niche having THAT large of an appeal that 80+ MILLION people are being fed poker content.

I won't pretend to know who they push stuff to, but my wife is big into watching Disney Vloggers on YT (don't get me started), and one of the guys she watches has similar numbers to wolfgang. 1 million subs, but like 8k views a video, because he makes shorts. This strategy has been a thing for at least a year.

I imagine Disney-related content has a MUCH wider audience than poker though. I just don't buy that 80+ MILLION youtube viewers are THAT interested in poker that the algorithm is sending them Wolfgang's shorts.

Which means it's either sending the shorts to people NOT into poker for some reason, or they're some tom-foolery going on. Whatever the case, the shorts content while driving new subs doesn't seem to build a dedicated follow/fanbase of people who will come back and watch the long-form content. Definitely feel like longform viewers are more "legit" and quality viewers over shorts viewers, from an engagement perspective.

The scheme behind Shorts is that they have the potential to be so short and punchy that a viewer may watch it 4 or 5 times in a row in one viewing. I've found myself watching single shorts of his seamlessly a few times in under a minute while I'm taking a crap on the toilet. They also word their voiceover in a way that loops, so he totally knows what he's doing. He'll start the video with something like "Go all-in with pocket jacks" and end the video with "And that's why I never", so it loops into "And that's why I never go all-in with pocket jacks". I've seen Shorts from other niches do the same thing.

Like the hands I linked above, I watched a few times each because I was ****ing baffled by them and needed to soak it in more. He might be scheming on that level too.

Ok well first cold 4betting 8s from the BB is pretty bad. As to your question i don't think any worse hands are meant to call a river shove but its live and maybe he has a read that the average player in that game will call with an pair. Or maybe he's just doing random **** and pretending like he's putting thought in to his decisions.
