I know I am in the minority, but I love the 1 and 9 seats. There is lots of room due to being next to the dealer. The downside of those seats is that it makes it harder to see some of the other half of the table, but I cope with that fairly well. I always am aware of the action and I generally lean forward in my seat so that never seems to be a problem for me.

As a dealer, I find that people who sit down and immediately ask for the seat change button are rarely doing it for bumhunting reasons.

Most do it because they are looking for a specific seat for viewing purposes. Be it the table or a nearby TV, they want to see better. The second most is because they are doing it for luck. If they feel their seat is unlucky they want to be able to move first if a different seat opens. The third reasons I find people ask is that they just like having the power of being able to move first. It makes them feel special being the gatekeeper of open seats. A power trip if you will.

In my experience rarely is bumhunting involved.

Back when PH had a poker room, and it was just off of the main aisle through the casino, as soon as I sat down at the table I asked for a seat change button so as to be able to a seat better able to see the main aisle. Those were some of the best people watching seats in all of Vegas.

Same ref: 1 and 9. I'll always ask for a seat change button if im in one of those but its simply because I have messed up knees and always end up smacking my knee off the drop boxes when trying to stretch out to ease the pain.

The only other time I ask for seat changes is if one of my neighbours doesnt know how to use deodorant or is a complete *******, and pray to god I dont get the seat the other side of him.

"Not gonna lie, you had me in the first half"

I always snap ask for the seat change button since I am always working my way closer to the ends of the table
to finally get that 1 or 9 seat since I can see the cards and the players the best.
Lasik is amazing but you'll still need reading glasses.
I can read the names on the board from across the room, but the two cards infront of me? Totally blurry
I cant imagine being in the 5 seat and having my head on a swivel to watch what is happening.

If the big stack maniac ends up on my left
I just look at it as I get the chance to be the last one to call
and thus get the most accurate pot odds before my action and I look forward to that 65s where I'm the 5th caller.

I've become a strong enough player that I'm not moving to avoid the stronger or more aggro players, I'm moving for my comfort and view of the table and cards

Oh, and the Asian Balenciaga/Vichenchy people who wear $500 tshirts? I just have no words. And for what it is worth, it's not just Asians who wear them, but if you were in Vegas, you'd know odds are high if you see that tshirt, it aint a guy from the South who is wearing it. I am repulsed by materialism in general, but the $500 tshirt that costs $2 to make has a special place in my "WTF?" File.

In low stakes games seat changing to get position on the whale isn’t bad for the game because the whale doesn’t realize what you’re going. If you’re losing he thinks you’re trying to escape an unlucky seat. If you’re winning he thinks you’re an idiot for leaving a hot seat.

Losing players at 2/5 and below are rarely perceptive enough to see/notice/understand anything being discussed in this thread.

Lol whales aren't idiots in most cases they know exactly what you're doing especially if you play them multiple times and keep doing the same thing.

Are we in the minority?

Seems like everyone is always trying to take the 9 seat away from me.

Also the 1 and 9 are not the same. I prefer the 9 bc the players to my immediately left are blocked out from seeing my posture.

Whereas the 1 seat is mildly annoying for acting bc the dealer is blocking out the 9 causing me to never know when it’s on me. This leads to me acting out of turn or being slow to act.

TLDR: 9>1 and they’re not the same!

I hate them for several reasons.

In the 1 I often don't know if action is on me.
In the 9 I can't see the person on my direct left and especially preflop they often telegraph what they're going to do (especially folding) before it's their action.

Additionally my knees often in the tip box in seat 1 and bbj/high hand box in seat 9 (if there is one)

Its actually the exact opposite. Ive lost count of the times a fishy loose player tightened up cause a pro moved to his left. I actually did this once but moved from the other side of the table to the fishes direct right and she still insta tightened up saying "oh you're moving over here?" thinking I was racking up and leaving. Just because its a whale doesn't mean the guy is a moron and btw its not 2006 anymore. Sounds like you're trying to justify your own behaviour.

i've encountered some people who sit out bomb pots except when it's their button.
at one table this guy sat out of bomb pots for 5 hours then did one on his button and nobody really noticed. then an hour later he was the button again and wanted in. I pointed out what he was doing- half the table basically told him he's a scumbag and for that dealer we all agreed not to do a bomb pot.

people who wait like 5-6 hands for the button to pass- seriously wtf are you even thinking? if it's not worth playing the blinds to get the button then you can't possibly win long term. and you're letting a table full of mostly strangers during wsop time know you're a colossal nit.I'd actually respect someone who set up the super nit image then came in blasting away on bluffs.

I shamed one short stacking bum hunter the other night. so so game one really fishy player- super nice guy. Guy on the fish's left busts. This dude snap throws a chip to lock up the seat. in my head I'm like 95 percent he's bum hunting seat hopping trash since it was from the 3 to the 6. He's waiting for the button to pass before he actually moves. Fishy guys busts and leaves. He takes his chip back. I told him he's a pathetic weasel bc I'm just sick and tired of watching parasites stoop to such lows but he went right back to his tablet and didn't care what I had to say.

Poker rooms really don't care about this stuff but really they should police it better. IE you have a seat change button- you move. That's it no seat change button for the rest of the day at that table. Same with transfer lists. Yes occasionally I'll tranfer if the game sucks- and usually bc it also has excessive tanking. But i've seen people play 6 hour sessions at 8 different tables of the same stake game.

In the last year or so I've actually noticed more people getting on seat change lists at least for plo. So when Aria has plo 7 games and I know 6 people in my aids game are on the seat change list I just wait them out and usually within an hour or two the game is filled with total randoms. if they're playing really slow I'll even just leave my chips and take a food break.

To answer your question about which people specifically- most of the euros are horrible as are the young Japanese.
Borg totally gets it. If anything there should be more confrontation in poker, all of these things he talked about are just so bad for the game.

Yep huge difference between guys that want a seat change to watch sports or see the flop and guy asking for seat change button before he has chips

But regardless I’d say that more than half of seat changes are to get more comfortable and/or change luck. Or maybe get away from direct right of tough lag which isn’t predatory.
If you are a reg that is getting away from a tough lag, you should never be moving. Tough **** he is a better player than you, get better or move tables.

Woah settle down big boy. You can actually be a better player than the guy but and it would in theory be better for you in a different seat. Just pointing out the obvious that it’s not the same thing as trying to prey on a whale and sometimes it serves a dual purpose of getting a more comfy seat with better views.
