Monthly Player Fee Instead of Rake? Monthly Player Fee Instead of Rake?

Anyone know of a site that allows you to pay a monthy fee instead of raking 5%+ out of every pot?

If not, someone out there should do it.

Consider the brokerage business. They used to charge ridiculous fees to make a trade. Now you pay nothing or close to nothing.

Also consider the implications for US players. For example, I play cash games with my crew in PS's "Home Game" area. We play for free chips and then settle up after the session using third party pay apps. But, PS is still taking a rake from our free chips, so as to make us buy more free chips, which makes settling up difficult (we devised an imperfect solution to the "rake"). We never buy more free chips because we never need to.

If PS just charged me $5 a month, and no rake, they would make a lot more money off me...

I would be more than happy to pay 5$ than 5k in a month to play. Make it happen.

Do you really think that there are enough people like you, that your $5/month would make up for all of the KossuKukkulas?

We've had many of these threads before, and like most of them, this one doesn't seem to be very well thought out.

Countdown to someone making the obligatory (and equally poorly thought out) "they could show advertising and charge no rake" post starts now...

Remember when WSEX went rake-free and the games got destroyed by nits

If you expend less than $5 per month with rake why are you even concerned about it?
I expend more with the energy bill than you with rake, come on. Just enjoy the ride

What do/did you pay for the playing chips that are used in your PS home game ?

Ah, my cue.

How about energy production? For a small investment, players could install something like an exercise bike and send energy back to the grid.

Great for player's health too.

I personally appreciate that the OP, who created his account here in 2006, waited nearly 15 years to post his first thread with a new idea that was only semi-fresh in 2006. That is patience!

I played on it.

The problem was that they really didn’t invest in the games. And it did draw too many nits.

I believe they didn't care about the poker and used it for marketing their casino and sportsbook. I'm not big on poker but the games there used to be the best even though they were infrequent. Usually it was someone tilting from sports or dumping a big win.

Once they went rake free every table had like $10 pots. People just folding all day and nut peddling so the ratio got too out of whack and then the people who came just to gamble didn't want to play.

Never played on WSEX, but don't get why the rake free games would have increased nittiness, it should have had the opposite effect. Better players playing more marginal holdings that would have been -EV within a raked context.

Wasn't there another site named rakefreepoker or something along those lines that had the same idea but didn't last long either?

Something more reasonable from business standpoint is charge a 'membership' fee for rake back....up to say 99% rakeback. The more you pay upfront, the more rakeback you receive. It could be monthly or yearly fee.

What about using the combined computing power of the computers playing to mine bitcoin instead of rake? Or how about showing ads alongside the tables..... =P

Terrible idea. This would discourage casual players. Do you want to play only regs?

no it shouldn't.
think about who is making their decisions on where to play based on rake.
better players MAYBE playing marginal holdings, or sites where everyone played like absolute ****. tough choice that was.

Those semi-legal poker clubs in TX run on a similar model. They charge membership fees instead of rake. But I'm sure they would charge rake if they could. Rake generates way more profits for the casino.

This.

No money to spend on advertising or giveaways for recs + low rake for the regs who care about such things = tough games.

My guess is that it attracted players who game select based on max rake rather than game quality and that those players were tighter than average.

If yacht manufacturers would only sell their craft for $100 each, I'd have an entire fleet. But no... instead, they make no money from me.

You, nor anyone else here, would trust the kind of online poker room that could stay open for $60 per annum per player.

If its strictly for home game crews just going online due to COVID FadedSpade.com just launched this. $20/month and you can choose any stakes, buy ins, game etc. You of course are using play chips and in charge of facilitating your real buy ins on the side but they don't take a rake which makes it easy at the end of the night vs pokerstars. The $20 is just for the person who creates the table, anyone can sign up for a free account and access that table once they have the password. We have a fairly large group of regs in our local games so every chipped in a buck or two and it plays for itself. You get 50,000 in "free chips". You can see all of the private tables in the lobby and there are like 40 tables already. Table stakes range from .10/.20 all the way to 2/5 currently.
