I assume so. Minnesota is by far one of the most Republican states in the country I think, right?

Then they need to run - not walk - to the US Govt and show them their progress and then PLEAD for regulation. I suppose it could be the EU instead of the US Govt, but I think the only way to ensure that the US Govt doesn't act in a punitive manner is to let them set the rules. In no way am I saying the the US Govt is better than others (at least not in this debate), and I do not tend to be trusting of my or any other government, I just think that OL Poker is gonna need to do something desperate to stay in business.

Clearly this is just my assessment and I welcome any rational debate.
this is the type of action from the people you want to regulate us. No thank you.

You should be arguing for a repeal of the UIEGA and rational debate from your legislators. Any attack on any basic freedom is un-American and should be treated as such.

I hope that leads to legalized Texas land-based card rooms. Unfortunately, we have ample opposition from those who'd legislate their ideas of morality.

We are one of only a few states that Mondale carried in 1984 and Dukakis in 1988. Soooo... No.

And when we do elect Republicans, we make sure they are extra ******ed. See Michelle Bachmann on youtube. "CO2 is nothing to fear! It's natural!"

last I checked we have a Republican governor who appointed the head of this committee.

Though I doubt any of that matters a great deal the PPA has done a fine job trying to bring in some of the people on the right.

You said that poker is not a free speech issue. I am saying that it will be argued as such.

You may be in the wrong forums is my guess, maybe you were looking for gardening or something. Here we are pro poker and for freedoms.
Dude.

Seriously.

You didn't say it would be argued as such - You stated that Internet Access had been judged to be a First Amendment Right. I honestly assumed you were referring to CIPA. If you have other examples I'd sincerely like to hear them.

Or you can continue calling me a "moron" and wait for the AFL-CIO to take up your cause.

We should create a poker militia...

but I wanna kick politicians in the nuts who think 18 year olds should not drink legally and we do not know how to use our own money.

To assume that a multibillion dollar industry can remain unregulated is naive. Furthermore to preserve the industry I believe it MUST be regulated.

PPA is trying to bring in people from the right, left, and middle. Hopefully we'll get a majority together.

The irony in all of this is that an individual gambling online probably isn't doing anything "illegal," but states who regulate said commerce in some form probably are...

And as far as being in the "wrong forum" - I didn't think so. I sort of thought that having a different way to address the problem might be accepted as part of the debate. I am clearly "Pro Poker" (but certainly not a pro poker player!) and for freedoms - I just disagree with you on some of your basic premises. If you can't understand that, then you're not going to do a very good job of representing your point of view to a wider audience and frankly I don't want you representing me as a member of the poker society.

Given Pawlenty's national ambitions, e-mails from players in other states saying he's lost their vote in a Republican primary if this action goes through is probably helpful as well.

You are for regulation I am unsure. Mostly I would just like the government to leave my freedoms alone.

If regulation ultimately does happen I would not be against it if it were under the right conditions. You calling for the card rooms to crawl at the feet of the government and beg for forgiveness is ridiculous.

Americans buy goods from billion dollar companies all the time without regulation. We live in a world wide economy.

Ok, you got me on the whole splitting hairs thing. ISP blocking is not common as you seem to be suggesting. It will indeed be argued as a free speech issue given that playing online poker is not an illegal activity.

Better?

As pros (people willing to jump through hoops) this will just be fairly annoying. I messed around with VPN's around the uiega and it wasn't particularly hard to do.

It's still major bull**** and so weird that it seemingly came out of nowhere.

I understand your point and have done as requested. I just believe that Texas would be one of the last states to try a trick like this even with the amount of Bible thumpers still residing in the state. However I am no where as close to in the loop as you are and appreciate your efforts and work whole heartedly.

It fits the modus operandi of the state of MN too a "T". I wonder at times why we have become so over governed and why they keep taking away our freedoms. This is only one step in a huge decline for this state that seemed to start 10-15 years ago.

I did hear back from the Electronic Frontier Foundation, they're looking into it but obviously dont have much beyond that at this point. They are at least aware of it. ACLU members should contact that organization as well.
