If there ever was a Mister Rogers of the poker world, its Mike Sexton. Can't find a bad thing about him, always positive, always looking for the best in people...he was too good for this game.

I missed the beginning and just rewatched, Phil, Vince Van Patten, Jennifer Harmon, Eric Seidel, so many others were also on the call. James Woods called in at the end.

Mike the Mouth did a great job putting this together.

Sad to see things are looking so poorly for Mike. Hope he is at peace. He deserves it. This one will hurt.

One of the very few larger than life figures in the poker world, his podcast with joey a few years ago was amazing. Gonna have to rewatch it sometime soon and have a few beers in honor of the legend.

Mike's an absolute legend. Mike defined the ethos of what every poker player should aspire, his life reflects everything that is good about poker.

I only have 1 very minor Mike story. It was on a Party Poker Millions cruise back in, I think, 2005. He had invited all the pros for a feedback session on what Party could do better. He listened intently to each point and gave thoughtful replies.

according to his wiki
Quote:
On June 27, 2006, Sexton won the third annual World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions event, and along with it the $1,000,000 first prize.

Sexton later donated half of his post-tax winnings to five charities, and has pledged to do the same with all future winnings.

In early 2009, Sexton along with Linda Johnson, Jan Fisher and Lisa Tenner, created PokerGives.org, a nonprofit organization that offers poker players an easier way to give to charity.

Def going to watch the podcast with Mike and Joey. Just watched the 03:50 video where he talks about how he missed out on $500m selling the PartyPoker stock too early. He seems like such a nice guy.

Greatest poker commentator voice!

Sportsnet in Canada shows old WPTs all the time in the afternoons. Gonna relive some of Mike's greatest work over the next little while. They show the WPT event he won every once in a while too. Looking forward to watching all these agin.

i never met mike and only know little bits and pieces about him from afar in the poker world. i don't post here often anymore but maybe the fact that i feel compelled to write some well-wishes speaks just as loudly about the kind of character he is. when you can leave an impression on people from a distance, you must've done things right along the way. all the best to mike, family and friends.

I played some 7 card stud with Mike at the Mirage when he was grinding, before Party Poker and any of the various expanded poker tournaments or poker shows. Had a few sports/sports betting conversations with him. Tough player with a good guy vibe.

I only met Mike once. It was at the final table taping of the WPT Mirage Poker Showdown in 2005. I walked up to the table where Mike and Vince sit for the TV broadcasts. They were both very nice and I was glad to have met both of them.

All I know of Mr. Sexton is what I've seen on TV when he and Mr. Van Patten hosts poker tournaments. Also saw the showing of his house on "High Stakes Living"... seems like a real nice guy.

What Mr. Matusow has done with his podcast is a great tribute to this man who is obviously loved and respected throughout the poker world.
I hope he gets well real soon. We need people like him in this world.

Mike your book was fantastic, probably the best gambling book I ever read.

Always enjoyed your commentary also, was an extremely good balance of keeping the viewer entertained/excited while also pointing out key specifics about hands like "If he calls here, he'll only have 50% of his stack left" or "The only card that can save him is an ace or a king on the river"

Man, good times. Thank you for the memories.

I was messing around today and saw on YouTube they were replaying his TOC win. It’s impressive how solid of a player he was for so long yet seldom mentioned with the stars of the game. Honestly, for the longest time I only knew of him as an announcer. I never knew he was such a baller and crusher.
Now he’s playing tight aggressive with Chip and Devil Fish and Gavin Smith among others.

RIP Mike Sexton. Such a humble guy yet such an important figure in poker.
