Yup, I'm one of those people. I remember at the time being incensed at her law suit, but to be fair the media at the time didn't report the story properly. Another example of how you can't trust anything the mainstream media says.

Same, I read about it in the local newspaper. I'm sure McDonald's had expensive ads in that paper every day.

That's not correct.
The reason the woman got big bags of money was that McDonalds knowingly made the decision to serve the coffee too hot as a way to save cost on coffee beans (I don't know the reason this works but it was detailed in McD's memos). They took in the cost of lawsuits for problems with temperature of the coffee.

mostly correct. but the bigger reason she got big bags of money (relatively speaking) was that she initially only asked for her actual medical expenses to be covered with maybe a nominal amount for pain and suffering added on for the third degree burns she suffered. McD's offered to settle for some crazy low stupid amount, like less than $1000. the jury decided that this was an outrageous situation and threw the book at McD's for failing to accept her reasonable demands and nailed it for an high punitive damages award.

nothing about the outcome of this case is in any way outrageous or out of line. you are a repeat offender, you fail to address the issue, then you cause a little old lady to suffer third degree burns, which were foreseeable under the circumstances, and THEN fail to cover her actual medical expenses? adios big corp v. little old lady. shows the importance of what attorneys do for our society. its not like legislators are ever going to cover this situation with legislation. they fill an important gap.

Re: Mike Postle cheating allegations (FAQ in first post)

I am curious what "earnings" means in poker.

He has racked up $919,421 in live tournament earnings over his lengthy career, as well as more than $630,000 on the virtual felt.

Does this mean he made this amount net of buy-ins?

After all the expenses associated with attending tournaments (travel/meals/hookers)?

Re: Mike Postle cheating allegations (FAQ in first post)

I love how people blame “the media” at large for their own inability to do the slightest amount of critical thinking or examination of the words in an article/story. It’s really something.

Anyway, glad to see the postle case is moving forward. Hopefully some justice is served.

Live poker tournament earnings is winnings. Buyins aren't subtracted, so it doesn't mean much. You could have huge live poker tournament earnings and a -ROI for those tournaments. Never mind, there are expenses and time taken.

All the buy-ins for all the tournaments in which you didn't cash, which aren't even listed, would need to be subtracted as well. That's where the majority of a tournament player's losses come from.

I was just wondering how I can afford an $80,000 Telsa on what appears to be a net $50,000 a year.
