Re: Mike Postle cheating allegations (FAQ in first post)

Can't help but wonder how much cheating goes on that we have no idea about because the perpetrators are smart about keeping it under the radar. Postle showed as much restraint and subtlety as the person who ran the potripper account a decade ago.

Any updates on case? Kind of felt like this would slowly be thrown out of civil court and forgot about .

Hope this isnt the case. Hope the victims get reimbursed properly.

Re: Mike Postle cheating allegations (FAQ in first post)

Stones posted on their Twitter that they cancelled some planned Chris Moneymaker sponsored tournament series recently because the investigation is still ongoing and they wouldn't have anything live online until it was done. The comments were gold but basically said they haven't come out with any findings/statement as of yet. There is also a fake Mike Postle Twitter account that posted in that twitter thread that had some pretty funny posts about the investigation.

So close. A paltry 461 more replies ITT and Postal will replace King Joey in his #1 spot as the most active thread/personality/topic

Mike blew by Dnegs and Galfond. Overtook Dougie long ago.

Soon NVG will consider Postal the most interesting man in the World. To bad he's too dumb to post ITT..... you know to help with his aforementioned movie/book deal

Joey's thread has staying power though, if it gets overtaken it will be only temporary. And a lot more views than this thread so it will likely not pass at this rate.

Does anyone remember how many replies/views the yayogate thread had?? That had to be a big one but I'm pretty sure it got deleted after it was resolved.

Well, you were kind of wrong about the nature of litigation. If a complaint doesn't get dismissed following some early defense motion on the pleadings, nothing will get it "slowly thrown out of court."

I think the complaint stated one or more claims that will go to discovery.... the pleadings deadline was poste somewhere in this thread, you can look it up....

Re: Mike Postle cheating allegations (FAQ in first post)

Really late to the show on this one, read a fair bit of this thread today. I'm one of those kind of people that will generally give people the benefit of the doubt unless there's a lot of evidence to the contrary - I'd say I'm pretty convinced that MP is guilty.

With that said, one thing I've noticed especially in the early stages of this thread is the amount of referencing to BB/100 and how statistically deviant his results are. Does the size of the games affect this at all? For example, I'm not familiar with this particular game, but a few videos I watched throughout the thread showed regular massive pots, sometimes 500bb. Could this contribute to such an outlandish BB/100? What would an absolute crusher in a normal game be running at? 5-6BB/100? Would someone that absolutely demolishes the game naturally have a much higher BB/100 in this environment, or does the positive/negative variance even this out to around the same BB/100 (winning massive pots, but also losing massive pots)

Also, I'm in no way trying to defend MP, just a general question regarding this metric.

The Stones Live streams were definitely a lot more pants-on-head than the average 1/3 game. That said, one has to wonder how much of that was due to the Postle effect -- people watched this guy call raises and 3bets with basically any two and adjusted accordingly.

They were selecting loose donks for the game. If you sat there waiting for decent hands, you wouldn't be on the show. Supposedly that made for better TV, but it also may have been designed to make more for the cheaters.

I wonder about some of the other televised cash games. Not that there is /was cheating, but the play seems pretty loose for high stakes. Maybe you don't get on those shows if you play tight.

There was quite a lot of discussion/debate about the bb/100 winrates later in the thread. It got quite tiresome, tbh, but the short answer is that bb/100 is not a great metric for comparing Postle's games (stack depth of 600bb+, frequent straddles and bomb pots) with standard 1/3 games (full of short-stackers and coffee-drinking nits), but the metric does allow comparison between "godmode" and "non-godmode" sessions. And of course the claimed 600bb/100 winrates helped draw attention to the developing investigation when it was first proposed.

Good point and I wonder if ppl have time to check out past streamed/televised events like WSOP to see if they can catch the way smarter cheaters, if they are out there.

We've often seen the big name pros cheat live on tv, whether by lying to staff or otherwise defending string bets and yelling at amateur players for their 'bad' play that they can never beat. Professional poker players are usually not very moral.

Fify.

Coincidentally, recently rewatched the one with Helmuth swearing, etc at last year's WSOP when Campbell? was ai, telegraphing his weakness and inducing the 3rd player to call rather than fold. What a major dbag move. How can someone so nitty and apparently so unlucky along with such poor table etiquette be so successful at tourneys? There is no justice in poker.

Please explain what the bolded portion means.

"Pants on head" sounds great, as does the apparent gradation implied in "a lot more pants on head than the average".

If appropriately used it would could rival a few other phrases.....

but, what do you mean by it ?
Google was not much help....

(Sounds vaguely Aussie.)
