Maurice Hawkins Told "Shut Up, N***er" At WSOP Event? - Page 2 - Poker News

So, we live in a society where if you get caught cheating with your girlfriend on live tv at a final table, and steal about 150k in equity from a third player, no penalty happens at all.

But if you call someone a name at the poker table, even what some would call the worst slur/name you could direct at someone, you can be disqualified. From the WSOP MAIN EVENT. WTF?

In poker, we're protecting peoples feelings more than we're protecting peoples ability, or possibility, to make money fairly.

Seems about right. Poker in 2018

Although this is a terrible thing to say and is not defendable, Maurice complaining about verbal abuse is incredibly hypocrytical. Really suprised more people haven’t pushed for penalizing him/banning him more harshly.

I agree with all of this. Obv guy should not have said it but this guy Hawkins has probably 1 of the worst reputations for being pure scum. Is there ever a tournament where he isn't getting into it with people or not angleshooting?

DQing someone over a word is dumb. (Especially if they are not a native speaker.)

If the facts in the story are true, it should have been diffused long before the dude said that word (which is a reprehensible one; no sane person would argue otherwise).

Having had the misfortune of playing with Maurice a few times over the years, I can confirm there are at least 100 things to lash out at him for other than skin color, and that any flack he gets is 100% brought on by him.

Dude still can't say The Big N though.

FWIW, I think a disqualification is overly harsh, but I understand America has a different attitude to words (particularly that word) than we do in my country, and there's probably more to the story that meets the eye. I'm guessing the offender had a big row with the floor manager or TD about his initial penalty. Can we look at it again on VAR?

It really doesn't matter what buyin the tournament is. It's the exact same rules for all tournaments. In a million dollar tournament you can't get away with 100x the stupid bull**** you can in the main. If you call the dealer a stupid **** you'll still get DQ'ed.

I dont think Maurice is really that mad, dude is laughing with his
friends about how he riled up somene so badly that they actually dropped the bomb on
him at the wsop.

This reminds me of an old joke a friend of mine used to tell.

Tony G talked trash on made-for-TV poker shows, usually towards professional poker players or other rich guys. Maurice Hawkins talks sh*t and annoys the F out of regular guys in low stakes tournaments like a $1500 WSOP event.

Thinking that's even remotely the same thing is like thinking that Brock Lesnar sends other customers to Suplex City while shopping at Walmart.

Meanwhile Maurice is laughing so hard right now over this. He should have been DQ'd too as he brings it on to cause this incident. This clown has been getting away with crap for so many years, I amazed someone hasnt done something 100 fold worse than use the N word on him
