If someone is such an elite player, they can put together their own $1500 buyin to a tournament. They can play 5/T and put together a buyin. If theyre a professional poker player and they can't do that on their own, thats probalby because their busto and they're busto because they're not as good as they make themselves out to be.
The markup that gets charged is absurd enough even if these dudes did actually pay up. But then you add in the counterparty risk of them not paying up...and just, why? Why do people buy action?
Maurice should pay back his backers and I'm not trying to excuse that. But people also need to stop buying pieces of all these "pros".
Well tournaments are unique in tht require so much bigger of a roll (200 BI?) than cash. So someone who is profitable in a $1500+ donkament might not have $300k+ roll but be a good or even v good poker player.
What’s difficult for huge % of backers, since many are not pros/high level players themselves, is assessing who is actually very skilled. Tons of recs think guys like Maurice are good players but not actually equipped themselves to correctly assess. How can you assess who’s making overwhelmingly +EV decisions at póker when you yourself are not?
Hendonmob also oft paints a very misleading picture since all you see are the cashes but not total buy-ins. People with 6 figs to Millies in cashes might be slightly up or even down net and broke - I know of countless myself.
