Mike Matusow is one of the best poker players in the world and has won millions of dollars playing poker. He almost won the 2005 WSOP Main event but his trip Kings lost to a nut flush. Had he won that hand it is highly likely he would have won the Main Event. Sometimes he acts what people would call strange but many geniuses also act strange. The great American Chess Champion Bobby Fischer often acted in a very bizarre manner but was a genius never the less. I think Matusow is a genius and more or less the poker world's version of Bobby Fischer.

A super easy way to find out what is true in the world is to look at Matusows twitter. Whatever he tweets there is about a 99% chance that the literal and exact opposite of what ever he wrote is what is actually correct.

How is one "highly likely to win the main event" when even if he won the 20-80 all in pre he would have been barely CL with 8 left?

I had never made the.connection but it makes a lot of sense. I suspect 50 years from now they will study mikes games, marvel at his elegance, and make documentaries about him as the first and last transcendent American poker player. I hope an elderly me will be included in the doc so I can recount my brush with greatness when he berated me in ftp chat for making a standard plo8 play.

From my understanding, his occasional “bizarre” behavior is the result of substance abuse not some misunderstood genius idiosyncracy.

That being said, he’s not a terrible player and certainly faired well during the boom. He just hasn’t kept up with the new school style and has now fallen behind a bit.

Fisher was unquestionably the best chess player.
Matusow is a broke delusional washed up nit.

That would still be the answer even if he won't the 2005 main including the broke part.
