I have been watching the SHR cash game that was filmed during the WSOP this year and I came upon the Australian 'baller' Nick Kirk. He proceeds to play like a maniac for both sessions I watched and I think was down about 500k in this game. He also mentioned that he was down $4m for his trip in total. That's quite a large amount of money! hopefully he has a large enough bankroll to sustain such a hit.
I had never heard of this guy previously, so was just wondering does anyone know about this guy, is he well known in the high stakes community, online or live? is he actually a good player and just on a down swing, or he is the absolute maniac, degenerate I perceive him to be after watching him play here.
I also realise that PLO is his favoured game so maybe playing high stakes NLH was just a huge error in judgement on his part. give me your thoughts on this

The consensus among the commentators and the other players at the table seemed to be that he is a winning PLO player at high stakes, at least in Australian games.

Probably NLHE is boring in his mind compared to PLO, that combined with the fact that he is used to playing so many hands led him to play that way.

Played with him a few times in Australia, mostly before he became a high stakes dude, he's always been a maniac play style wise, and is at least decent at poker; although he did spewy things when I played with him as well. I doubt he'd go well against the top crushers but he clearly could beat the games at Crown at least in the time period where he built his bankroll.

I don't really know him on a personal level at all. He seems like a massive degenerate gambler, but he does have skills so maybe he has the roll to sustain the swings. He also could have sold action obviously.

Same, I concur. The play on SHR is a perfect example of why sleep is so important and to curtail long sessions whether winning or losing. Using drugs that prevent sleep is going to end badly always when you are playing rested top competition.

Played with him a bunch in Perth 7-8 years ago, he hasn't changed a bit from what I saw. He played in some of the big underground PLO games in Australia. Loves to gamble and has always had the maniac style. Rumour was he was backed by some of the underworld guys back then no idea about now.

He's spewy at NL, he plays it like Ilari. His style in PLO is quite dangerous, and even his NL style is dangerous versus weaker players with less bankroll. The lineup he played against on the SHR would not be a favorite versus him in PLO.
